Vaun Brown LF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(6). BA= .351.
Remarkable season for Vaun Brown. Might be getting close to needing to see what he can do in AA, if nothing else to give him a head-start on next season.

Any word on how good Aeverson's glove really is? Seems like the early reports were he was as slick and polished at SS as a teenager could be and his hitting would be a major work in progress... Seems to me batting .272 with a little pop is a great sign for a 19 year old in A Ball. I'd say he's a 10-day hitting streak away from knocking on the door as one of our Top 5 Prospects. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI am a bit concerned with his 17 errors so far, along with 97 strikeouts against 26 walks. But, he turned 19 in March, so besides those two issues, he seems to be doing well in low A ball. APGiantsfan
ReplyDeleteGood catch, didn't see the 17 errors. Always expect some mental lapses in young players on defense, but 17 is not "a couple mental lapses," that clearly needs to be cleaned up.
DeleteLots of bad bounces in lower minors.
DeleteSpeaking of shortstops, with Brandon Crawford having the worst season of his 12-year career in all areas, especially his health, what's coming at SS could become urgent quickly. His playing time last year was down but he had his career year across the board.
ReplyDeleteHas Craw hit the wall?
Looking at the farm, there is a serious gap which gave credence to the Giants signing Crawford for 2 additional years. Between Crawford and Luciano, if he sticks at short, it isn't pretty. Luciano is only 20 - still at High A - when is it his day?
Giants are surely very happy they bought Estrada - he's logged more games than Crawford - but as a SS, he's a fill-the-gap-guy, not what the Giants have enjoyed for a dozen years.
In line are who? Will Wilson? Arquímedes Gamboa? Tyler Fitzgerald? Arteaga is 19 years old - he's what the Giants have if Luciano isn't. Then there's Ryan Reckley who is 17.
Where is Matt Duffy when you need him?
Hearken back to Sunday, November 14, 2010, Doc asked: Burning Question #2: Who's Plays Shortstop?
Is it Burning Question #1 now?
Regardless of injury, 35 yo is ancient for a MLB SS. It's a near miracle that Crawford has been this durable for so long. He has one of the best SS arms I can recall ever seeing. It is a huge mistake to take what Crawford has given us for over 10 years now for granted. He is not going to be easy to replace by any stretch. Wilson has struggled at the plate and is now out with hamate surgery. Luciano has missed a lot of time this season with a bad back. Arteaga is very young. FZ has his work cut out to find a bridge to one of those prospects stepping up and being ready.
