Two runs in the 9'th inning made the final score closer than the game actually was. Austin Slater CF reached base 3 times but aside from that, the Giants offense laid down and died in front of Julio Urias LHP.
The game was basically over then Alex Wood LHP allowed B2B HR's to Mookie Betts RF and Trea Turner SS in the third inning. Wood faced one batter in the 5'th inning and threw 97 pitches in 4 official IP.
The Dodgers got solo HR's from Betts, Turner and Freddie Freeman 1B, three of the best players in all of MLB and who were aggressively acquired through trades and signings at considerable cost. Are you reading this FZ?
Evan Longoria 3B left the game in the 4'th inning clutching his hammy after running to 1B on a GIDP. Longoria has appeared in just 49 out of 94 games this season. It looks like it will be awhile until he appears in #50.

Alex Cobb RHP tries to stave off the embarrassment of a 4-game sweep tomorrow afternoon facing Clayton Kershaw LHP in a game I plan to attend with some friends who are Dodger fans. That should be fun!
Not that it matters but the called 3rd strike o.n Slater to end the game wasn't close, even after Will Smith half-heartedly and unsuccessfully attempted to frame it. The completely ineffective David Price was all smiles as he left the mound, seemingly admitting he had nothing.
ReplyDeleteThe Giants have 9 days to find a white flag donor to salvage something of 2022, although even acquiring Soto and 3 or 4 or 5 of the best of the Nationals veterans probably won't help enough. It did help win a division in 1997, but it went downhilll from there.
