Down on the Farm: 7/2/2022

AAA:  Reno Aces scored 6 runs in the last to innings to top the Sacramento River Cats 10-9.

Isan Diaz SS/2B- 1 for 5, HR(15).  BA= .248.
David Villar 3B- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(21).  BA= .278.
Joey Bart C- 2 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .286.
Yermin Mercedes LF- 3 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .348.
Bryce Johnson CF- 1 for 3, BB, SB(18).  BA= .289.
Shelby Miller RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.63.

David Villar continues to rake PCL pitching.  The way the Giants are hitting I'm having a hard time seeing a reason not to call him up.  Twitter report has Bart's HR traveling 484 ft.  I would also advocate for giving Bryce Johnson a look in CF in SF.  Put him at the top of the lineup or #9 hole and see if he can start a few rallies.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the Bowie Baysox 10-3(7 innings).

Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 2 for 3, HR(10), BB.  BA= .183.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.72.

Sean Roby's 20'th HR ties him with David Villar for most HR's in Flying Squirrels history

Hunter Dula RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(4).  ERA= 2.49.

Per Joe Ritzo's Twitter, Grant McCray leads the Cal League in triples.  Successful full season debut for Joe Kemlage NDFA from 2021.  John Gavin is trying to comeback from two TJ surgeries in 2 years.  Twitter had him throwing 92-93 MPH.  It looks like Hunter Dula is the current Closer for SJ.

  1. Sean Roby: 41% K rate.
Although 3 true outcomes has become sort of a vogue, it doesn't win many games nor correlate to winners.
Certainly Roby has reached the category, and for the first time in his career, his homers exceed his doubles as he seems to be selling out for homerun or bust.
Roby is 2nd in the EL in HR's and most likely will become #1 as the leader (Kerry Carpenter) was promoted to AAA. Carpenter, a year older than Roby, was hitting .304 and is doing even better in a SSS with Toledo.
It will be interesting to see what Roby can do if he gets past AA into the homerland.

Dave Kingman made a 16-year career of 3 true outcomes, leading the league in HRs twice and K's 3 times, but he never made the post season. He did earn over $4 mil in his career. Average salary in 1985 was $350K (Kingman's next to last year) so he did well for the times.
