Game Wrap 7/3/2022: White Sox 13 Giants 4

This was supposed to be the homestand that propelled the Giants to the top of the NL West. Instead, they hit what must be rock bottom on the final day in a blowout loss in which they were dominated in every phase of the game.

It was a bullpen game against Lucas Giolito RHP who is a much better pitcher than his record indicates.  He struck out 7 of the first 8 batters he faced, allowed just one hit through 5 innings and did not allow his first run until the 6'th.  Meanwhile, the Giants third pitcher, Sean Hjelle RHP, was victimized by the same defensive lapses that have plagued Giants pitchers all season as a throwing error by Donovan Walton SS led to 2 unearned runs in the third inning and opened the floodgates for a blowout. Austin Wynns C/RHP became the latest position player to pitch for the Giants allowing the final 2 runs in the 9'th inning.

The Giants do not get a travel day before starting a 7-game road trip against the D'Backs with Carlos Rodon LHP facing Madison Bumgarner LHP.  This begins a string of 14 games without a break going into the All-Star game including 4 against the Padres and another 4 against the BrewCrew.  Then they have a 4-gamer against the Dodgers in LA coming out of the break.  They are currently 2 games behind the last Wild Card postseason slot.  It's not hard to envision them 10 games off the pace by July 24 and in sell mode going into the trade deadline.

Apparently Anthony DeSclafani RHP's ankle problem is a loose tendon.  He will undergo season-ending surgery to tack it down and hope for better health over the last 2 years of his contract.

  2. Remember the Days of the June Swoon?
Giants just had another, sort of:
    Last 10 2-8
    Last 20 9-11
    Last 30 14-16
In truth the Giants were 13-13 in June, and 0-3 for July. Maybe this is a Jun-ly Swoon: 3-10 since June 18, falling from 3 GB to 8.5.
FZ ends up getting NOTHING (zero-zip-nada) for Mauricio Dubón. Nice kid, versatile, an adventure on the base paths, but - nothing?
Sometimes the Churn wins and sometimes it loses - 2021 v 2022?
Vosler had his day (or 2) although he wasn't even carrying Villar's glove in Sacramento (.203/.272/.385/.657 v .284/.409/.633/1.043) - what's that all about besides for the 40-man roster?
Has the management class turned into Mel Gibson?
