Down on the Farm: 7/9/2011

AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Tucson Padres 4-3:

Brandon Belt(1B)- 1 for 3, HR(6), BB. BA= .317.
Tyler Graham(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, 2 SB(43). BA= .279.
Andrew Kown(RHP)- 6 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.15.
Dan Otero(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.75.

All eyes on Belt's progress. We like to see HR's!

AAA Richmond Flying Squirrels split a 7 inning doubleheader with the Harrisburg Senators winning Game 1 3-1 and losing Game 2 6-4:

Game 1:

Francisco Peguero(RF)- 2 for 3, 2 SB(2). BA= .322.
Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 1 for 3, HR(9). BA= .259.
Henry Sosa(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.38.

Game 2:

Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .262.

High A San Jose Giants defeated the Bakersfield Blaze 2-1:

Ryan Cavan(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .267.
Zack Wheeler(RHP)- 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.76.

Gotta wonder about Wheeler's frightful BB rates. So far he seems to be able to overcome them with great stuff, but he'll have to polish that up as he gets to higher levels.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets outslugged the Asheville Tourists 14-8:

Carlos Willoughby(2B)- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .260.
Adam Duvall(DH)- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(19), BB. BA= .274.
Ryan Lollis(RF)- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(2). BA= .307.
Ryan Scoma(1B)- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .234.
Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .239.
Robert Haney(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .259.

Nice game to pad the stat lines for the hitters. Duvall, in particular, is on a tear. 9 for 14 with 4 doubles and 2 dingers in his last 3 games.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes erupted for a 14-7 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 2 for 5, BB. BA= .244.
Joe Panik(SS)- 3 for 5, SB(4). BA= .342.
Mike Murray(DH)- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(4). BA= .417.
Brett Krill(RF)- 2 for 5, SB(2). BA= .375.
Joe Staley(C)- 2 for 5, HR(4). BA= .271.
Shawn Payne(LF)- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(8). BA= .242.
Wilber Bucardo(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.70.

Krill continues to surprise. Panik just keeps hitting. Staley and Murray show off their power. I wonder if either can play catcher? I'm intrigued by Galindo who seems to be catching on to this hitting thing and has always had speed to burn.

Rookie AZL Giants blanked the Reds 7-0:

Gus Benusa(CF)- 3 for 5. BA= .269.
Jean Delgado(2B). BA= .167.
Myles Schroder(DH)- 2 for 4, SB(2). BA= .276.
Paul Davis(RHP)- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.74.
Miguel Ferrer(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.00.
Addison Proszek(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.92.

Ferrer has 13 K's against 1 BB in 9 IP so far. Davis has 9 K's against 3 BB's in 10.1 IP. Proszek is a big guy, 6'5", 260 whose career has gone nowhere since being drafted in 2009 out of Gonzaga.

DSL Nationals crushed the Giants 9-2: Nothing to see here.

  1. Doc, Any idea what the deal was with Correa in game 2 for Richmond? He came in to relieve, but faced no batters. It is my understanding that a pitcher MUST face one batter before being relieved, except in an injury situation.

    Was he hurt?

  3. I hadn't noticed that. Nope, no HBP. No mention in the game story on the Squirrels' website.

  4. 0 pitches thrown. The only thing I could think of was he hurt himself in his warm-ups...
