I'm sure if you took a poll of Giants fans lising their top 10 most hated players in MLB, I'm pretty sure Scott Hairston would rank fairly high, perhaps even #1. I thought we had heard the last of that guy when he left the Padres. Guess not! Hairston led off the top of the 9'th inning as a pinch-hitter by taking Brian Wilson deep for the go-ahead run. The Mets tacked on another 2 runs to put it away, ruining another good pitching performance from Ryan Vogelsong and another great night by Nate Schierholtz. Key Lines:
Nate Schierholtz- 1 for 2, BB, SF. BA= .280. Nate produced both of the Giants runs with a sac fly to drive in Sandoval who had doubled earlier in the 4'th inning and then sent a splash hit over the RF wall just inside the foul pole for their second run to get Vogelsong off the hook for the Loss.
Ryan Vogelsong- 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 14/1. ERA= 2.17. Vogey was upside down on the K/BB. Looking at his line, you would think he was wild, but he wasn't missing by much. Both he and Bochy thought the ump was squeezing him. I'm not sure. I thought the one pitch they were the most upset about, the walk to Tejada in the 6'th, was close but probably a ball on Pitchfx. Real or imagined, credit to Vogelsong for staying focused and pitching through the frustration. Really just one mistake, a hanging slider to Pagan that went a long ways.
The D'Backs edged the Cards 7-6 to climb to 1 game behind the Giants in the NL West. The Rockies squeaked past the Nats 3-2 and are 7.5 back. The Dodgers blanked the Padres 1-0 to leave the Pads 10 games back and in 4'th place while Dodgers crept closer to the cellar door 11 games behind the leaders.
Tim Lincecum takes the mound tomorrow evening in a game my daughter will be attending facing lefty Chris Capuano.

frustrating game
ReplyDeletevsong wasnt wild...the ump had a very tight kzone...still great outing, and he finally qualified (for the next 2 days) on the era leaderboard...2 in the nl
nate is in the zone
huff cannot bat in the 4 spot...not sure what they are gonna do (trade for beltran) but he has gotta move down
to be honest, im pretty ticked at the guy...he did what too many major leaguers do...work hard, get a nice contract...then sluff off during the offseason...except for spots, he hasnt looked good at all thi year
pen may be gassed...wilson is...and bochy shouldve thought about using romo in the 9th
craw and pablo make the left side almost impenetrable
guess miggs will be staying at 2nd for a bit as he is hitting
and it was great hearing michaels doing a giants game again...the evil troll? not so much
ReplyDeleteCrawford+Sandoval is a great defensive combo. Just wish they could surround the rookie with some bats.
ReplyDeleteHuff looks honestly hopeless. Injured? Tired? Just not into baseball? Whatever the case, he isn't getting it done.
When Wilson got some rest a day ago, he looked fine. Today was pretty bad.
Post game ,it was noted that the ump is new, so he is a bit timid about making calls, like third strikes. All through game, annoncers noted pitches that should have been strikes, in fact, Bay thought he was out until he realized ump called it a ball. A vet ump should slap upside his head, tell him to make the right call!
ReplyDeleteAubrey ain't right and needs to take some time on the pine like everyone else in the lineup. Play him 4 games a week until/if he heats up. And, yeah, slide him down in the lineup when he plays.
ReplyDeleteHow bad is Burrell's foot? Is he completely unable to play in the field? Like to park him at clean-up for about a week when he's able.
Picking up Beltran at the right price would be great. But I get the feeling the Mets are gonna bleed any takers. Still, need something...
Kelly
ReplyDeletebeltran's no trade sort of cuts out the whole bleeding a trade partner
mets are gonna want to dump his salary....and im sure they will accept a couple of mid level prospects...which the giants have tons of
There seem to be all kinds of signals about that a deal for Beltran is already in the works. It seems like the holdup is that the Mets still aren't sure if they are out of it yet. Or, it could be all smokescreens and the Giants are targeting something else.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see every pitch, but I thought the ump was calling pretty close to the true strike zone which is narrower and higher than most umps call it.
ReplyDeletegotta give vsong credit...he took total responsibility for the bb's...was pretty down on himself after the game
