Game Wrap 7/23/2011: Giants 4 BrewCrew 2

Ryan Voglesong faced possibly his biggest challenge of the year in Milwaukee's offense. He had to pitch his way out of some jams and it took a lot of pitches, but ultimately, he gave his team a chance to win and he got just enough help from the offense and the bullpen and came away with another W. Key Lines:

Aubrey Huff- 1 for 1, 2 BB, SF. BA= .235. Huffy had some good AB's tonight, was on base 3 times plus a productive out.

Nate Schierholtz- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .292. Nate's one out was a long drive almost to the warning track in CF which was caught.

Ryan Vogelsong- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.10. The line doesn't look all that great, but Vogey threw some really good pitches to some really good hitters. No shame in giving up a dinger to Ryan Braun! He did gets some help on defense with a great throw, catch and tag by Cody Ross and CStew on Weeks trying to score from 2B on a single to LF. Keppinger made a Freddy-like grab of a liner to 2B too.

Bullpen- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. Romo got a favorable call from the ump on a strikeout pitch to Braun. Lopez did his LOOGY thing and abused Prince Fielder. Wilson didn't get any K's but was throwing strikes apparently realizing he had a 2 run lead to work with.

The Win keeps the Giants lead in the NL West at 4 games over the D'Backs who clobbered the Rockies 12-3, dropping the Rockies to 10 games back in 3'rd place. THe Padres lost the Fox Game of the Week to the Phils 8-6 to fall 13 games behind. Man, it looked hot in Philly and the balls were jumping out of that park! The Dodgers trail the Nats 6-5 in the 7'th inning and are also 14 games behind pending the outcome of their game.

Madison Bumgarner takes the mound against Yovani Gallardo, who always seems to give the Giants fits, in a day game tomorrow.

  1. Important win to tie the series. Vogelsong grinded it out all night and what a job by the bullpen. I saw something on MLB Rumors tonight reported on twitter by John Lennen of Newsday that there is increasing chatter around the Mets that maybe Beltran is heading to SF. Gary Brown didn't play tonight for SJ, hope its a coincidence.
