Down on the Farm: 7/13/2011

AAA IL beat the PCL 3-0:

Andrew Kown- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's.

No other Grizzlies appeared. Looking over the PCL lineup, I think Brett Pill and/or Tyler Graham could have helped this team.

AA EL West defeated the EL East 8-3:

Çharlie Culberson- 2 for 2, SB.
Johnny Monell- 1 for 2.
Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 4.
Justin Fitzgerald- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

Giants farmhands scored 4 runs and drove in 4 obviously making a large contribution to the West victory.

High A San Jose Giants scored a come from behind 5-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide:

Gary Brown(CF)- 3 for 5, 2 2B, SB(37). BA= .316.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 5. BA= .340.
Brandon Belt(1B)- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, SB(1). BA= .462.
Tommy Joseph(C)- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .247.

Brown seems to be back on track. Pretty typical game from Belt. Dude takes a lot of walks! Joseph is hitting .310 with a SLG% of .690 over his last 10 games.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets postponed.

Short Season Yakima Bears downed the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5-2:

Mike Murray(DH)- 2 for 4. BA= .446.
Garrett Buechele(3B)- 2 for 4. BA= .267.
Cameron Lamb(RHP)- 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 11/0. ERA= 4.55.

Rookie AZL Royals topped the Giants 7-3:

Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB. RA= .324.
Jose De La Cruz(DH)- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .296.
Kentrell Hill(LF)- 2 for 4, SB(1). BA= .229.

Not sure why De La Cruz doesn't get more love. Just his 7'th game starting June 20.

DSL Mets pounded the Giants 8-2:

Carlos Cartegena(LF, 17 yo)- 2 for 3, HR(1), SB(3). BA= .130.

Cartegena is a 6 figure bonus baby from Venezuela. Worth keeping an eye on.

  1. any thoughts on who the giants are going to send to winter ball?

sabean interviewed earlier today...while he is working hard on getting a bat, its hard going...people want the giants top prospects

he thinks they have enough to get to the finish line, but we have to be honest...without some pop, they arent gonna go deep

i for one, will not be upset...they have performed above my expectations...and have the makings (thanks to a strong farm system...and cash at hand) to be strong, for many years to come

much different org than the one in 05

  2. Agreed with not giving up too much for a bat. Keep the system in place. Keep the kids around, see who develops. As Bacci said, the farm feels SO different from six or seven years ago.

And there is a lot that can improve from within:

Belt may find his groove and return.
Sounds like Freddie will be back this year.
Torres, Aubrey or Cody could lock in.
Burrell could get hot at playoff time, instead of cold like last year.

All of those could happen. One or two probably will.

    Patience.

  3. Nobody thought the Giants would get anywhere in the playoffs last year either. You need just 3 things to win a 5 or 7 game series: 1. 2 dominant starters 2. A shutdown closer.

Once the Giants are in the playoffs, anything could happen, but like last year, other teams are not going to want to face them.
