Down on the Farm: 7/10/2011

AAA Fresno Grizzlies pounded the Tucson Padres 12-5:

Brandon Belt(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .320.
Brett Pill(2B-1B)- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .308.
Brad Eldred(1B)- 3 for 5, HR(16). BA= .266.
Max Ramirez(C)- 3 for 4, HR(6). BA= .278.
Dan Runzler(LHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.57.

Runzler has looked better since moving back to the bullpen. The Giants still seem to be getting him more innings than a typical reliever. Would you include him in a trade for Beltran?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Harrisburg Senators 4-3:

Roger Kieschnick(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .264.
Francisco Peguero(PH)- 1 for 1, 2B. BA= .323.
Eric Surkamp(LHP)- 7 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 12 K's. ERA= 1.78.
Hector Correa(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.68.

Well, there goes the injury theory of why Correa was listed in the box score but apparently did not face a batter. Surkamp now has 114 K's against 30 BB's in 96.1 IP, excellent ratios.

High A San Jose Giants smothered the Bakersfield Blaze 11-1:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .333.
Jarrett Parker(CF)- 2 for 5. BA= .266.
Alex Burg(C)- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(6). BA= .374.
James Simmons(RF)- 2 for 3, HR(5), 2 BB. BA= .339.
Michael Main(RHP)- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.52.
Ari Ronick(LHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.15.

Gary Brown was in the Futures game today which explains his absence from the lineup yesterday and today. Burg continues to rake. Do we have a breakout in progress?

Low A Augusta Greenjackets pounded the Asheville Tourists 10-2:

Chris Lofton(CF)- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB. BA= .253.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .277.
Ryan Lollis(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .313.
Josh Mazzola(1B)- 1 for 3, HR(8), BB. BA= .223.
Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 0 for 2, 2 BB, SF. BA= .237.
Robert Haney(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .267.
Shawn Sanford(RHP)- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.53.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.18.
Seth Rosin(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.53.

Lofton is hitting .333 over his last 5 games. Haney has his 3'rd 2 hit game in a row. Rosin has 29 K's against 8 BB's in his last 21.2 IP, since moving to the bullpen. Sanford has 14 K's against 1 BB in his last 2 starts.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes erupted again for a 14-2 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils:

Julio Izturis(2B)- 3 for 4, 3B, BB. BA= .224.
Joe Panik(SS)- 2 for 4. BA= .349.
Mike Murray(DH)- 3 for 3. BA= .440.
Dan Burkhart(C)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(2), BB. BA= .291.
Garrett Buechele(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .231.
Brice Cutspec(1B)- 3 for 4, HR(4), BB. BA= .241.
Kendry Flores(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 5.75.
Aaron King(LHP)- 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 5.87.

Cutspec has a .519 SLG%. Take out one bad game and King would have a line of 0-0, 2.43, 14.2 IP, 6 BB, 21 K's.

Rookie AZL Giants defeated the Reds 9-3:

Jose Cuevas(3B)- 1 for 4, HR(3), BB. BA= .194.
Ben Thomas(1B)- 2 for 5, 2 HR(4). BA= .404.
Myles Schroder(C)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(3). BA= .303.
Christian Paulino(2B)- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .262.
Brian Maloney(LHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.23.
Armando Paniagua(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.15.

Paniagua is a Timmy sized pitcher who now has 11 K's against 3 BB's in 8.2 IP.

DSL Giants were idle as usual on Sundays.

  1. doc, we all knew that brown was in the futures game, where for some stupid reason, they had him in the 9th spot...cuz it makes so much sense to put one of the fastest guys in the minors at the bottom of the order...thats what happens when you let a former bum manage the squad

tweeted the squirrels about correa...no response

if runzler returns to the bigs, its in middle rp as a long man....really looks like that is what he is built for

belt seems to be getting his swing back. if huff cant turn it around, watch for another mystery injury to happen in august

as the season progresses, im liking more and more how evans and his crew have set up the farm system

could honestly have a real feeder system for years to come

  2. Drb, At least Brown was able to show his stuff.. He singled to right off a Ranger AA LHP in the 5th inning, stole 2nd base, and scored on a double by A's prospect Grant Green. There is a video on CSN Bay Area showing Michael Urban interviewing both Brown and Green talking smack to each other, hilarious stuff!

  3. If the Mets were interested in Runzler, I would probably toss him in. Do we know who (or whom) New York would be asking for to make this deal happen?

  4. as we saw from this series, mets need pen help

i think that is what it would take to get beltran...if the mets are still dealing him

thing is, the mets are still in the wc hunt...so nothing is gonna happen till the deadline

  5. Not everyone knew, and even among those who knew, might not have remembered that the Futures game was just held, so don't worry about that DrB.

I would not include Runzler yet, I would give him at least another try in majors to make it, has too much potential to be future closer, I think. And especially not if the Giants are paying all of Beltran's salary. If we are paying $6-9M for his remaining salary, they should just be getting lower level prospects, I think.

Little Bochy has been doing well. Pretty good, didn't he just have his TJS last season? Modern medicine amazing...

DrB, ever recall any player getting promoted from Salem-Keizer the year they were drafted and signed? I'm wondering if Panik stays there or get promoted at some point to at least Augusta.

I don't want to see Belt in the majors until he gets gets his strikeout rate under at least 25%, if not under 20%, else just Sept call-up. Most position prospects need 1000 ABs to reach the point where they can hope to be successful in the majors, so people will just need to be patient with him, he wasn't even suppose to be this far anyway by this season, I would be happy if he's ready to start for us next season.

Any plans to have a mid-season Top 50 prospects list? I think there would be many of us interested in some sort of an update, even if you go down to 10-20 of your current top prospects.

  6. I'd like to discuss a mid-season Top-20 or so list also, Martin - great idea. What do you think, DrB?

Also, even though the minors are for development, it is nice to see so many of our teams getting wins here recently.

What do we know about Shawn Sanford? The results look good so far...

  7. I thought about a mid-season top 20 or 50 prospects. Couldn't do the Full Monty on it but maybe just a list with some very brief comments? Just off the top of my head, I can't really think of anybody whose stock has cratered. Some who have really raised their stock significantly in my mind include Chris Dominguez, Surkamp, Hembree, Duvall. Panik would be a new addition who would rank right up there. I'll try to put something together.

  8. Hector Sanchez has obviously raised his stock a lot too.

  9. Doc,

Wouldn't you say Culberson would be a prime prospect for diveage? Someone needs to fall to make room for Duvall, Hembree, Panik, Berg, Murray, etc...

  10. Yeah, I'll take a look at the old top 50 list and figure it out. Maybe Culberson although I don't think he's done all that bad at Richmond.

  11. Most likely the risers will slot in and drop the downers by just a slot or two. The ones who will drop off will be the ones at the bottom of the old Top 50.
