Down on the Farm: 6/30//2011

AAA Tacoma Rainiers won a seesaw battle with the Fresno Grizzlies 6-5:

Jason Christian(RF)- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(1), BB, SB(2). BA= .500.
Brett Pill(1B)- 2 for 4. BA= .309.
Tyler Graham(CF)- 1 for 2, HBP, SB(40). BA= .276.
Justin Dowdy(LHP)- 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.08.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Reading Phillies 5-2:

Culberson and Hodges had 2 hits each. There were no XBH's in the game.
Eric Surkamp(LHP)- 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.72.

High A San Jose Giants downed the Modesto Nuts 5-2:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 3, 3B, HBP. BA= .316.
Nick Liles(LF)- 3 for 5. BA= .329.
Alex Burg(3B)- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB. BA= .426.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .250.

Brown shows signs of life. Burg keeps raking. If he can play 3B in addition to catcher, that's a huge plus for him.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets topped the Charleston River Dogs 5-1:

Carlos Willoughby(2B)- 1 for 3, HBP, SB(26). BA= .260.
Raynor Campbell(SS)- 2 for 4, SB(11). BA= .228.
Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .248.
Shawn Sanford(RHP)- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.80.

I don't think Campbell has played SS before. The Giants have been pretty aggressive about trying players out at different positions this year. RafRod returns to the lineup after an extended absence.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes lost to the Eugene Emeralds 6-3:

Julio Izturis(2B)- 1 for 4, BB, 2 SB(4). BA= .154.
Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .362.
Mike Murray(DH)- 2 for 4. BA= .415.
Brice Cutspec(1B)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .219.

Rookie AZL Indians edged the Giants 3-2:

Leonardo Fuentes(RF)- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .242.
Elliott Blair(2B)- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .167.
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.32.

DSL Giants blanked the Cubs2 1-0:

Jose Reyes(RHP, 20 yo)- 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.31.
Reyes Maronta(RHP, 18 yo)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.93.

  1. I noticed that Burg has played a few positions while at WSU... then the knee surgery and here he comes. All of a sudden there is at least one decent catcher at each level... I wish he would do the Belt-like rise. Nice to have trade bait or a nice back up to Posey or Sanchez.

  2. For all the pessimists - this farm system isn't as bad as a few people have proclaimed.

These young kids coming into the leagues are going to make it hard on these fat FA's; if FO's had any guts, to steal anymore.

There will always be the king of greeds, Hankees, Boosox and Phoolies to keep the money flowing but it is going to sink them someday soon.
