Down on the Farm: 7/6/2011

AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Sacramento River Cats 7-6:

Edgar Gonzalez(SS)- 1 for 4, HR(6). BA= .306.
Brandon Belt(RF)- 2 for 4, HR(5). BA= .330.
Conor Gillaspie(3B)- 2 for 4, 2 HR(6). BA= .296.
Thomas Neal(LF)- 3 for 4, 2B, Assist(home). BA= .321.
Max Ramirez(DH)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .266.
Jackson Williams(C)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .185.

It seems like Conor Gillaspie has had several 2 homer games in his career with not much else in the way of power in between. Neal really seems to be rounding into a complete player. I'd like to see a few more dingers.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels vs Trenton Thunder postponed.

High A San Jose Giants topped the Modesto Nuts 3-2:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .333.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .269.
Tommy Joseph(C)- 2 for 5. BA= .248.
James Simmons(LF)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .313.
Chuck Lofgren(LHP)- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.96.

I believe this is Lofgren's first start for San Jose. He was once a highly touted prospect. The Giants have a reputation of being able to fix pitchers. We'll see if it works for Lofgren. Local kid to boot.

Low A Charleston River Dogs downed the Augusta Greenjackets 5-4:

Carlos Willoughby(2B)- 3 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .257.

Willoughby's BA has been drifting down for awhile, but he still has a .367 OBP.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes outhit the Everett Aquasox 10-6:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 1 for 4, HR(1), BB. BA= .203.
Brett Krill(RF)- 3 for 5, HR(2). BA= .346.
Mike Murray(DH)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .390.
Dan Burkhart(C)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .298.
Garrett Buechele(3B)- 1 for 2, HR(1). BA= .100.

Another big night for my man Brett Krill. Buechele started out in the AZL. He makes his first S-K hit count.

Rookie AZL Giants beat the Cubs 7-4:

Eldred Barnett(CF)- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .233.
Ben Thomas(1B)- 2 for 4, 2B, 3B. BA= .391.
Leonardo Fuentes(RF)- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .245.
Brian Nicholson(DH)- 2 for 3. BA= .320.d
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.92.
Demondre Arnold(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Danny Sandbrink(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.05.

Arnold is a 19 yo RHP drafted out of JC ball. Loved his scouting video. I think he may be a major sleeper.

DSL Giants box not posted yet.

  1. neal also had an assist to home that saved a run

i think its gonna take time for neal to get his power stroke back...would rather watch him continue to hit for avg

  2. What's the deal with this Thomas kid in the AZL? S-K first basemen avg combined doesn't even equal Thomas' and he has more RBI than both, what gives?

  3. Thomas was a great college hitter, but some question about the strength of his competition. Same goes for the AZL which college players should dominate. We'll have to wait and see what he does at higher levels.

  4. Let's get him out of the place where he is dominating and see if he dominates against the better competition.
