Down on the Farm: 5/4//2011

AAA Fresno Grizzlies topped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 4-3:

Conor Gillaspie(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .280.
Brandon Belt(RF-LF)- 1 for 4. BA= .471.
Shane Loux(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.89.
Steve Edlefsen(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.20.
Marc Kroon(RHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(6). ERA= 3.38.

Gillaspie is now hitting .351 over his last 10 games. I'm afraid Marc Kroon isn't going to be taking Brian Wilson's job any time soon.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels were rained out of their game.

A+ Visalia Rawhide beat the San Jose Giants 6-2:

Just 4 hits for the Giants: Dominguez had a triple, Liles and Jurica hit a double each.
Zack Wheeler(RHP)- 5.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.00.
Ari Ronick(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Jose Valdez(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.00.

A bit of wildness from Wheels, but the K's still look good. I wonder if Ronick is going to be one of those guys who comes back from TJ with more velocity? He just hasn't seemed to have the stuff to strike out a side before. We'll see.

Low A The SAL was idle last night.

  1. If you ignore the runs, Wheeler's line is not that bad. Did he just have a bad inning, or was he giving in to the long ball?

  2. Agree with calsnowskier, his line was OK, just looks like bunched the hits/walks together for a lot of scoring.

Say, DrB, do you add HR given up by pitchers in line? I know, more to do, just asking :^)

Wheeler just one out away from DOM start per PQS methodology, assuming he gave up 2 HR, so this was a sabermetrically good start for the most part, just unlucky for the pitcher.

  3. doc...look at kroon's line...he isnt walking anyone

he isnt gonna close for the giants, but with the amount of innings the pen has thrown so far, his and edelfson's chances of getting called up remain very good

  4. I think Gillaspie should be called up. Maybe we can catch lightening in a bottle?

  5. Wheeler left the bases loaded and the reliever that followed him cashed in the runs...
