"When the Giants Come to Town..." is my blog intended to chronicle my thoughts on San Francisco Giants baseball. My special interest is in prospects and the farm system, but of course, will comment on all aspects of the San Francisco Giants. I will also comment on baseball in general, particularly from a fantasy baseball perspective. I hope you will find the site informative, and invite you to join in the discussion.
Of course, you go away for a day and Hector Sanchez's streak of 15 games with at least one RBI ends... heh
ReplyDeleteZack Wheeler - straight up HEAT in innings 1 and 2 today. 96 mph twice on a scouts radar gun (one of the scouts had a Giants W.S. ring too which was sweeeeet). 93-96 mph out of the windup every time in the first two innings.
ReplyDeleteControl was a bit of a issue. Misses up a lot. He was primarily throwing fastballs - at least 80% but probably more. Even in counts where he should be mixing in off-speed it's usually just fastballs. Has a curveball that does 72 mph 'ish' that actually has a pretty good bite but the Ports guys were laying off. If Wheeler ever gets a good secondary pitch - look out.
Out of the stretch he was more 90-91 mph. A Ports player hit a Grand Slam off him in the 5th and that was it for his day.
I've seen Skaggs (Diamondbacks) and Matzek (Rockies) pitch twice. Neither of them even touched 96 - Matzek is more 93 mph, and Skaggs has a terrific curveball that he throws in any count. I like Skaggs the best but Wheeler is right there because the fastball is electric. Matzek can't throw a strike the 2 times I've seen him.
I LOVE Gary Brown. Happy go lucky guy. Energetic. Fast as hell. Hit 2 doubles the other way today and a single to RF. I like his short stroke - but he has pop with it - hit a HR yesterday to just left of CF that was NICE!
I really like Jarrett Parker too. I bet he gets it going - tall - but not too long a swing. Hit some balls the other way hard.
Hector! I need to get to know him better - the kid can hit! Hit a bomb today.
I've seen all the A+ California league teams - the Giants have one of the better teams. They also are having a lot of fun in the dugout - lots of clowning around - good for the young guys.
Brandon Crawford is the best defensive SS I've seen in A+ this year - get him out of here to Fresno - he has big thick legs - is real calm out there at short - nice arm - smooth around the bag on dp's.
Go Giants.
Wow, Ryan. Awesome report, thanks!!!!
