Tim Lincecum and Ian Kennedy hooked up in a ferocious pitching duel that ended with neither pitcher being involved in the decision. Cody Ross provided another fix for the Giants addiction to walk-off wins wlth Brian Wilson gettng credit for the W for the 3'rd time time in 4 games. Key lines:
Darren Ford- 0 AB, SB(4). Ford was kept on the roster while Rohlinger and Burriss were sent down for just this type of situation. Posey drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 9'th inning. He stole 2B without drawing a throw. Huff struck out, but then Cody Ross drove in Ford with a hit down the LF line. Without the Giants abilty to insert Ford's speed into the game at that point, the game might still be in progress!
Cody Ross- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .245. Ross was only credited with a single on the walk-off hit, but it would have been a double if the game hadn't ended with Darren Ford crossing home plate.
Tim Lincecum- 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 2.11. Timmy is amazing to watch pitch right now. I don't recall ever seeing him so elastic, strong or loose armed as he is right now. He's getting incredible leverage on every pitch and letting the ball go with more freedom and confidence than I can remember in his already incredible career.
Brian Wilson- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K, Win(3-1). ERA= 4.41. This reminds me of Wilson's explanation of why he wanted to be a closer. Timmy pitches 8 innings, Willie pitches just one and walks off with the W. "I want THAT job!" LOL!
The Giants had lost a half game to the Reeling Rockies with the off day yesterday. The Rockies lost to the Mets today, 4-3 allowing the Giants to close to 0.5 games back in the NL West. The Dodgers pounded the Pirates to climb to 3.5 games off the pace. The Dangerous D'Backs and Pesky Padres are 4 and 6 games back respectively afte their losses tonight.
Jonathan Sanchez tries to get back on track tomorrow evening against Armando Galarraga.
I have always believed that the winning team gets the biggest boost and the losing team gets the most demoralized from 1-0 games because the losing team wasted a great pitching performance. Hey, maybe instead of the Dangerous D'Backs, they are now the Demoralized D'Backs. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it, huh?

Fun game. Watching on TV, you could see how into it the fans were. Like they expected the win. Nice place to be.
ReplyDeletePosey nailing Upton trying to steal 2nd in top of the 9th was nothing short of perfection. Krukow noted afterward that Wilson went higher leg kick for that pitch and had a slow delivery to home. Posey's throw could not have been better. Great defensive plays become phenomenal in tight, low-scoring contest.
Couldn't see Ford not staying with the club. Six outfielders...with Belt knocking hard on the door.
belt not knocking all that hard...today, against a lefty, he had a hat trick...once looking
ReplyDeletehe has stuff to work on...and wont be up until the team can work out a trade
casilla should be starting a rehab assignment in sj this week....when activated, look for runzler to get sent to fresno...im thinking to stretch out, as the org is getting short on mlb ready starters
very nice to see an actual lead off guy in the lineup tonite...torres' first two at bats were great
i know that bochy wants to ride the hot hand, and have a better d behind timmy, but the lineup missed burrell, and his ability to work the count
its nice to have a deep bench in the of...but there is still an issue with the middle if
i love ford...i just wish the guy would have been trained to hit balls into the ground, to run out if hits
he shoulda learned back in low a, that with his speed, singles become doubles
I would take Timmy over any active pitcher for Game 7, right now. Feels kind of funny pulling for the little biddy guy and then he does that... Kind of makes me feel guilty....
ReplyDeletehey doc, check out this audio interview with dunston jr
ReplyDeletehttp://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2011/3/29/2079631/audio-interview-with-2011-draft-prospect-shawon-dunston-jr
kid has a great head on his shoulders
the way it sounds, unless he is drafted in the first round, he is for sure headed to vandy
shawon has done a great job with the kid
Hey, thanks for the comments everybody! A bit short on time to respond, but I want everybody to know I read 'em and appreciate 'em.
ReplyDeleteToo bad for Manny and his defensive brain farts at second. The ability to play middle INF and slightly better contact ability should make up for Ford's speed advantage.
ReplyDeleteI saw the same thing about Dunston Jr (I think on Extra Baggs) that he wouldn't sign except for first round money.
ReplyDeleteThat got me thinking, the Giants have one of the last picks in the first round (29th), plus a supplemental pick for Uribe (49th), which they could use to get him. Would think Sr would love to have Jr here in this org (I still think it's weird that Dunston ended up here instead of with the Cubbies).
I think the scorekeeper would have awarded Ross with a double if that was necessary to get the run in, but with Ford running, he probably was almost at home by the time Ross passed 1B, which would cause the scorer to only give a single.
Given that Rowand has actually been cold for a while, I think he got the start as a TY for being a pro and sitting quietly last season and so far this season. Though, I just noticed that Burrell has been cold the past 2 weeks himself, though to be fair Rowand has been cold for over 3 weeks now, offensively. I still think he got the call first up to assuage his ego a bit and thank him for serving well enough when we needed him to.
OK, the one who got short shrift is Nate the Great Schierholtz, who has been hitting well for a couple of weeks now. Maybe Bochy wanted to Nate to avoid Kennedy, D-backs best pitcher? By that logic, Nate should play today against Gallaraga, who is not so good a pitcher, despite his near perfect game last season.
I disagree about Burriss vs. Ford, I think Ford's ability to steal makes a dangerous threat off the bench for us, whereas Burriss, not so much, despite his high total of steals. I wonder if teams will be more hesitant to IBB one of our better hitters in order to avoid Bochy PR-ing Ford.
Hey, check this link http://mlb.mlb.com/news/probable_pitchers/index.jsp?c_id=sf
Compare Dirty up top with Vogelsong below. Does it look like a before and after he lost weight pics?
Bacci,
ReplyDeleteBelt is not a day-to-day thing. His portfolio is looking pretty solid in Fresno. But, you're right, Giants aren't calling him up until they clear some room.
Anyway, if Belt gets called strike three at AAA, I'm thinking it's the ump that got it wrong.
