Not much to say about this one except the Giants were dominated in all phases of the game. In addition, except for Brandon Crawford's freak grand slam HR on Friday night, the Giants essentially were unable to generate an offense of any kind the whole weekend. Key Lines:
Freddy Sanchez- 2 for 4. BA= .302 Freddy is the only Giant hitting with any consistency and he's not the type of player who can carry a team by himself. Brandon Belt was the only other player to reach base twice via a hit and a walk. There were no XBH's.
Matt Cain- 6 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.88. The K/BB was good. Maybe he was unlucky?
Yovani Gallardo(Brewers)- 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.89. Gallardo is a quality pitcher who finally seems to be coming into his own, but the Giants aren't hitting anyone right now. Gallardo was helped by a generous strike zone which Cain seemed to have too. Credit to Gallardo for taking advantage of it.
With the Loss, the Giants tumbled out of first place in the NL West as the Dangerous D'Backs topped the 'Stros 4-2 to move 0.5 games ahead. The Reeling Rockies lost again, this time to St Louis 4-3 to stay 3.5 games behind in 3'rd place. Clayton Kershaw may be a Failbeard, but he's heckuva pitcher and he dominated the Marlins with a 2 hit 10 K performance as the Desperate Dodgers fried the Marlins 8-0 to move up to 5.5 games off the pace while the Pesky Padres edged the Nats 5-4 to gain 0.5 games to 7 behind.
Madison Bumgarner tries to be the stopper tomorrow night against Kyle McClellan and the St Louis Cardinals in St. Louis.

bochy has to sit huff and play belt at first, huff is not gonna hit himself out of this funk...he cant see the breaking ball
ReplyDeletestill cant understand why stewart and cain didnt pick up on the k-zone...every 2 strike pitch shouldve ended up low and outside...which was getting called for a k
snakes are playing good ball against bad teams...you gotta do that
giants still playing close to 500 ball on the road....that is normal and still means a shot at winning the division
gotta be honest though...without posey or an offense that can score more than 4 runs, the chances of this team going deep in the post are now slim to none...even if sabean works some magic and brings in a bat
and more than just bochy getting tossed...this team needs to do things to light a real fire
today, cain shouldve stuck one right in fielders side...he crowds the plate and his attempt to take whiteside's head off, shouldve been addressed
they can no longer allow other teams to walk all over them
Way too early to give up on Huff. I'd give Belt some AB's but out of LF.
ReplyDeleteThe one trade I think would help the most because it would shore up a position of great need and probably wouldn't cost a top tier prospect, Ryan Doumit. Not a great defender, but a whole lot better hitter than either Whiteside or Stewart and this team needs offense!
Doumit's got an ankle sprain. Slide into his leg at the plate.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that about Doumit. Just another example of how brutal catching is. Any catcher who is athletic enough to play another position and can hit well enough, well, you just can't afford to keep them at catcher and expose them to that pounding.
ReplyDeleteYeah , the description of the game was that most of the hits were dinks that fell in or found seams. This game would qualify as a dominating start from saber perspective, otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThe home plate umpire was just brutal - Maddux and Glavine would have felt right at home. Outside pitches that appeared to be several inches off the plate were called strikes. And I do mean *several* inches.
ReplyDeleteAnd in the early innings, it was dribblers and dinks that got the Brewers on base.
Is it really that hard to call accurate balls and strikes, or do umps just have this need to flout the rules and make up their own strike zone? IMO, nothing is immune to progress. We now have the technology for electronically sensing balls and strikes. Why not use it?
