Brett Pill(2B)- 2 for 5, 2 2B, SF. BA= .360.
Brandon Belt(LF)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB, Assist(Home). BA= .458.
Travis Ishikawa(RF-1B)- 2 for 4, 2B, HBP. BA= .250.
Brett Pill played 2B? Not sure if that's a typo, but all the other positions check out as being reasonable. I guess the Giants are taking the concept of versatility to a whole new level? Wow! Great game to pad the ol' stat line. Don't you just love high elevation ballparks? Ironically, the Grizzlies did not hit a HR in all that.
AA Bowie Baysox defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-1: Honestly? Absolutely nothing to see here.
A+ San Jose Giants downed the Lake Elsinore Storm 8-5:
Wendell Fairley(LF)- 2 for 5, HR(1). BA= .333.
Ryan Cavan(2B)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .261.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 1 for 4, HR(6). BA= .286.
Hector Sanchez(C)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .300.
Kelvin Marte(LHP)- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 7-1. ERA= 0.94.
Gary Brown DNP. Hope he was just getting a day off. Fairley didn't get his first HR last year until the last week of the season. Another nice start by Marte.
Lexington Legends topped the Augusta Greenjackets 5-4:

Matt Graham(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 4/1. ERA= 3.78.
Splashing Pumpkins mentioned Graham's rather dismal K/BB. Here's his full season line so far: 0-0, 3.78, 16.2 IP, 12 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 2.14. While not saying his K/BB is a good thing, I'll say there are some mitigating factors: 1. 10 of his 12 BB's have come in 3 of his 10 appearances. 2. He has shown dominance with the GO/AO>2. Graham big kid with a big arm who was "raw as rain", to borrow a phrase, when he was drafted. His main job this year is to establish the 2 seam fastball as a reliable weapon to build on and not get completely overwhelmed at this level. Although he is not particularly young at age 21, he is at an age appropriate level. Given his rawness when drafted, It is reasonable to expect him to be a project and a late bloomer. I actually think if his results are viewed in their entirety and in context, there is much to be encouraged about for his future development.

I completely agree about Graham - it's still too early to write him off. And speaking of writing someone off, what's up with Wendell Fairley? Is it possible that he's starting to figure things out?
ReplyDeleteI remember Doug Mien%#*&^(@ making the same reverse move up the defensive spectrum, starting a game at second late in his career.
ReplyDeleteIf Pill can turn the DP, he should be able to hang at second.
Pill would actually have some value if he could play other positions besides 1B, as good as he is defensively there, he just is not good enough a hitter to start there regularly. He could be a good bat off the bench if he can field other positions decently. Makes a lot of sense.
