Down on the Farm: 4/8/2011

Apologies again for the delayed farm report.

Fresno Grizzlies lost to the Las Vegas 51's 4-1:

Emmanuel Burriss- 1 for 3, BB, 4 SB(6).
Tyler Pill- 1 for 3, 2B.
Shane Loux- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 11/4.

Burriss apparently was paying attention to how Bochy was using Darren Ford in the pre-season as he has run wild in the first two Fresno games. Alas, his efforts did not lead to any Runs.

New Britain Rock Cats trounced he Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-1:

Eric Surkamp- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K's! Surkamp continues to show an ability to miss bats. Maybe his fastball is average, but if he can put an elite curveball and a good changeup with it, he could be like a younger Barry Zito, which was pretty good.

Lake Elsinore Storm edged the San Jose Giants 5-4:

Gary Brown- 2 for 4, 2 SB(3). BA= .429.
Tommy Joseph- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .375.
Chris Heston- 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.
Hector Correa- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.
Jose Casilla- 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K's.

Brown is looking good so far as is Tommy Joseph. All 7 other members of the SJ starting lineup got 1 single each. Joseph was the catcher while Hector Sanchez DH'd.

Augusta Greenjackets scored 5 runs in the top of the ninth to down the Greenville Drive 6-2:

Adam Duvall-1 for 4, HR, BB. BA= .250.
Rafael Rodriguez- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .333.
Chris Lofton- 1 for 3, BB.
Mario Rodriguez- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.
Jacob Dunnington- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K.

Good to see RafRod in the highlights so soon. Dunnington is a kid to watch for a breakout this year.

  1. Even with an average fastball, Surkamp's fastball is probably faster than Zito's current fastball. I'd take a young Barry Zito.

  2. i listened to the post game from richmond....they were totally impressed with surkamp

best move the giants and defenders made was moving to richmond...ct had some great core fans...but that was it

even with bad weather, richmond is drawing 5k plus...and that has gotta be a boost for the players

with belt, i wonder what becomes of pill

they now have an org guy playing first for richmond...so i think the org is pretty much set with belt for a long while

i love what decker is doing with the grizzlies...his only prob may be that starting rotation, and how its gonna eat up his relievers, who dont look all that great, outside of edelfson and kroon

  3. I assume you meant Brett Pill, and not his brother, Tyler? You REALLY want Tyler in the organization, don't you? :)
