Game Wrap 4/27/2011: Pirates 2 Giants 0

Madison Bumgarner pitched a solid game, but the Giants offense didn't show up. Not much else to see here. Key lines:

Madison Bumgarner- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 7/3. ERA= 6.17. It seemed like just a matter of time until Bumgarner turned it around. His velocity has been excellent all season. He's had balls find gaps and umps who squeezed him and he didn't have the pinpoint command from late last season, but all the signs were there of a huge element of bad luck and positive regression. Well, he got the positive regresssion tonight, but the luck stayed bad as he got no run support.

The loss dropped the Giants below .500 once again. The Rockies game against the Cubs was rained out so the Giants are 5 games behind the NL West leaders. The Dodgers won in Florida to move 0.5 games ahead of the Giants into 2'nd place.

Mark DeRosa is still having wrist issues and goes on the DL starting tomorrow. Emmanuel Burriss gets the callup and indications are he will get some chances to play. If the Giants big bats aren't getting it done, might was well try a "speed" lineup of Ford, Burriss and Nate for a game or two and see if they can win on the basepaths.

Ryan Vogelsong gets the rubber match of the 3 game series against the Pirates. He has been solid in relief roles since his callup to sub for Barry Zito.

  1. the derosa signing has become a joke

paying the guy to be on the dl

rowand is not a leadoff man

i really hope burriss shows something tomorrow, and they can insert him and take miggs out of the lineup

huff shaved his head...now all he needs to do is shave 20 lbs and be moved down to the 5 spot

with derosa's wrist issues, and miggs issues in the field and at the plate, i now see why they are dangling nate....but as he is out of options, i dont see how he will bring back much...unless they are also offering wheeler

  2. Wheeler isn't going anywhere. His value will only increase, both as a trade candidate and as a #2 or #3 big league starter candidate for the Giants.

I hope Miggy gets benched for Burriss for a few games, I'd imagine Burriss can hit .200, but stay out of the double plays, which Migs can't say right now.

Bat Burriss leadoff and move Rowand to the 8 hole Tejada was in...

  3. Well, you win some and you lose some. Sabean traded for damaged goods in Freddy Sanchez and it eventually worked out. It's looking more and more like DeRosa is done, but then that's what a lot of people said about Sanchez too.
