Down on the Farm: 4/11/2011

AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Tacoma Rainiers 7-6:

Darren Ford- 1 for 5, SB(5). BA= .318.
Emmanuel Burriss- 1 for 4, BB, 3 SB(10). BA= .176.
Brett Pill- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .476.
Ryan Rohlinger- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1). BA= .211.
Conor Gillaspie- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .250.
Andrew Kown- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K's.
Wilmin Rodriguez- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.
Steve Edlefsen- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.
Henry Sosa- 0 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 0 K.

I have to admit I like the SB thing better than watching the big boys GIDP game after game. Kown is a big MILB veteran lefty who has had very low K rates throughout his career. Had more than 1 K/IP tonight. Sosa seems to be regressing at an alarming rate. Maybe he's just had an accumulation of too many injuries?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Bowie Baysox 4-2:

Juan Perez- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .200.
Jose Flores- 2 for 3, HR(1). BA= .294.
Ryan Verdugo- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.

Pretty good start for Verdugo who is looking to make the change to SP this year. If successful, he could pass Clayton Tanner on the organization SP depth chart.

A+ San Jose Giants survived the wind tunnel up in Lancaster with a 14-8 win over the Jethawks:

Gary Brown- 0 for 6. Ouch! BA= .238.
Jarrett Parker- 1 for 4, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .250.
Chris Dominguez- 1 for 4, 2 BB. BA= .364.
Tommy Joseph- 3 for 5, SF. BA= .455.
Hector Sanchez- 2 for 5, BB. BA= .278.
Luke Anders- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(1), BB. BA= .364.
Nick Liles- 3 for 4, 2B, 3B, BB. BA= .500.
Jake Dunning- 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 1 K.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to Dunning's line. Lancaster is the most extreme hitter-friendly environment in all of baseball, majors or minors. Nick Liles played shortstop in this one. Now that's interesting!

Low A Rome Braves defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 7-3:

Josh Mazzola- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .150.
Ryan Scoma- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .375.
Taylor Rogers- 4 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K's.
Shawn Sanford- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.

Sanford was better in relief than the starter, Rogers. I was disappointed to not see Seth Rosin pitch yet. Maybe Augusta is going with a 6 man rotation and we'll see him tonight? I saw Rosin listed as the projected SP in game 3, but he didn't appear. Hope he's not hurt.

  1. Rosin flew back to Minneapolis earlier in the week to be with family during a medical emergency of immediate family member. I believe he is back with the club now, you will see him on the mound soon.
