AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Tucson Padres 5-4:
Emmanuel Burriss(SS)- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .339.
Ryan Rohlinger(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .200.
Conor Gillaspie(3B)- 1 for 3, HR(2), BB. BA= .259.
Thomas Neal(CF)- 2 for 4. BA= .269.
Steve Edlefsen(RHP)- 1 for 1, HR(1). BA= 1.000!
Andrew KownLHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.18.
Steve Edelfsen(RHP)- 2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.42.
Marc Kroon(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(2). ERA= 2.84.
Edelfsen made the most of a rare AB for a reliever. He was an infielder in college albeit with no stick. Interesting that Neal played CF.
AA Richmond Flying Squirrels downed the Altoona Curve 7-3:
Nick Noonan(SS)- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .250.
Charlie Culberson(2B)- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .286.
Jose Flores(3B)- 2 for 4, SB(2). BA= .212.
Justin Fitzgerald(RHP)- 4.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.88.
Ronnie Ray(RHP)- 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.93.
Jason Stoffel(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.
Nick Noonan is off the DL and played SS.
A+ San Jose Giants topped the Visalia Rawhide 5-4:
Gary Brown(CF)- 3 for 5, SB(13). BA= .355.
Jarrett Parker(RF-CF)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .182.
Ryan Cavan(2B)- 2 for 5, HR(4). BA= .233.
Hector Sanchez(C)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .286.
Craig Westcott(RHP)- 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.24.
Chris Wilson(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.80.
Brown's numbers are starting to look a bit like his college numbers except for more BB's. That's a very good thing!
Low A Delmarva Shorebirds edged the Augusta Greenjackets 8-7:
Carlos Willoughby(2B)- 0 for 2, 4 BB's. BA= .300. OBP= .391.
Devin Harris(LF)- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .235.
Rafael Rodriguez(RF)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .255.
Austin Fleet(RHP)- 4.1 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 7.24.
Edward Concepcion(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.13.
Matt Graham(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.21.
Willoughby has shown impressive on-base skills at every level. Rafael Rodriguez does not need to have a breakout year, but he does need to show he can play at this level. So far his is doing that. At age 18, he can afford to repeat the level and still be ahead of the curve. Concepcion continues to have success pitching out of the bullpen.

fresno has also been using travis in rf...all in prep for when belt joins the team this weekend
ReplyDeleteevans said that the kid will get most of his starts in the of...mostly in left
wonder if they will keep the sj team together like they did in 05
seems to me that the diamond is much more of a hitters park then any other park in the eastern...not sure if that is good or bad for development
as a side big league note....seems that donnie baseball does not trust his pen at all...kershaw was forced to go into the 9th...threw 122 pitches....i have a feeling that none of the dodger starters are gonna make it throught the entire season
I would like to see Brown see a significant portion of this season above A+. I want to know if he will be ready to man CF in SF next year or if we will need to sign Torres to one more year.
ReplyDeleteBacci,
ReplyDeleteDonnie's bullpen gave up 8 runs in the prior game. The would have lost this one too if Kimbrel hadn't blown the Save.
CSS,
Agreed on Brown. If he keeps this up, he should be promoted by mid-season. The purpose of the farm system is to develop players. He doesn't develop putting up college numbers in San Jose.
Imagine if they run a Belt/Neal/Ishikawa outfield, all guys who were seen as 1st basemen at one point or another.
ReplyDeleteAnd then just a week ago running wild with a Graham/Ford/Evans all CF group.
They're definitely not boring down in Fresno.

ReplyDeleteI had read a post that said you checked out some SJ Giants at the Padres A Club in Lake Elsinore. I live in Solana Beach in north county San Diego. Next time SJ is in LE, we should meet at the game. Never checked out anything but AAA Fresno and Sacramento in the minors. Let me know.
I will definitely post on the blog when what minor league games I am planning to attend.
ReplyDeleteDoc,
ReplyDeleteI recently heard that Main appears to have figured something out, and may be turning the corner. Have you seen/heard anything about this? What is his current status with the org?
CSS,
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen anything specific on Main. I know he underwent some type of surgical procedure, I think on his hip, in the offseason and he has pitched pretty well in 2 starts for San Jose. I still have high hopes for him. At one point someone thought he had enough talent to make him a first round draft choice.
