Game Wrap 4/12/2011: Giants 5 Dodgers 4

This was a crackling good game that the Giants won. Started off slow, had a rousing middle and some suspense at the end. Key lines:

Aaron Rowand- 2 for 4, 3B. Gamer hit a drive up triples alley in the bottom of the 7'th, which he legged out for a triple, then came home on a wild pitch for the game winner. Is Rowand creating some trade value for himself? Is he winning his old job back? I'd guess we'll be seeing him leading off for at least the next several games.

Buster Posey- 3 for 4. BA= .300. Nice game by Buster who seemed to be seeing the ball better tonight swinging the bat with more authority even though all the hits were singles.

Brandon Belt- 1 for 3, BB, SB(2). BA= .158. Belt reached a low point with his error which helped prolong the Dodgers 3 run 4'th inning, but made a nice comeback at the plate later on. Let's hope this was the start of something good for the kid.

Timmy- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. Timmy had good velocity, but didn't seem to have a put away pitch tonight. It caught up with him in the 4'th inning. He was up to 108 pitches by the time he came out.

Brian Wilson- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 19.29. Wilson was at his unhittable best tonight. It will take a few more appearances to get the old ERA down from his first two disastrous outings.

The win brought the Giants record to 5-6 and to 3 games behind the Colorado Rockies who were rained out in NY. San Diego lost to the Reds and dropped past the Giants into last place in the NL West at 4-6.

Jonathan Sanchez takes the mound tomorrow night against Ted Lilly as the Giants try to win the rubber game of the series with LA.

back to the tough decision to be made when both ross and torres return

just cant see the giants dfa'ing nate...hes just too economical to lose...and his at bats have looked much better, each game

timmy was missing his spots by a bit...but lets be honest...a good d behind him and that inning never happens...love huff, but whether its the extra weight (he definitely filled in during the off season) or the loss of a step...he doesnt have the range for right at all anymore

man...what the heck is the league office doing regariding ump evaluations? im getting tired of listening to kruk and kuipe tell me that the ump is calling balls and strikes based on where the catcher sets....thats insane

both mota and romo looked great...bochy has been doing a fine job in his use of the pen so far

kemp is a monster...had he been as focused during his early dodger years, maybe they make it out of the lcs

  2. Belt just has an outstanding eye and plate discipline. He's not squaring anything up lately. His timing is really off. I'm not sorry Belt's here, but I would like to see the Giants get DeRosa some more at bats. Is the DeRosa experiment at short over? (I don't remember hearing anything good coming out of ST when he briefly played some SS) Not that I'm trying to deteriorate an already out-of-whack defense. But the Giants will benefit from DeRosa getting 300-400 ABs.

If Sabean somehow manages to move Rowand, I'll finally forgive him for resigning Pedro in 2007. How the Pirates looking in the OF? Sabean always seems to manage to fleece the Pirates...

Kemp does look good. He's playing loose and relaxed. Nice to see him get caught stealing 3rd tonight. Let's see Kemp down the road a bit, when he hits a little adversity.

  3. Bacci,

I agree. Nate or Cody Ross would have caught Kemp's double into RF. Huff looks like he doesn't get good jumps on the ball and he's fairly slow to boot.

Part of the Giants problem this year is they seem to have too many players who are too close to each other in skill levels at too many positions. It can be a nice problem to have, but it can also be a distraction. I think at some point they are going to have to decide what their best lineup is offensively + defensively and trade the players who are left out.
