What, Travis is getting in on the SB act too? He gets his first, Ford #6 and Burriss #12. Beavan is a former first round draft pick(#17) by Texas who went to Seattle in the Cliff Lee trade.
AA Bowie Baysox topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-1:
Joe Koshansky- 2 for 3, HR(1). BA= .292.
Daryl Maday- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 5.06.
David Quinowski- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Koshansky is a MILB veteran.
A+ Lancaster Jethawks outlasted the San Jose Giants 4-3 in 12 innings:

Ryan Cavan- 1 for 5, 2 SB(2). BA= .143.
Carter Jurica- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .182.

12 SBs in a half-dozen games has to get someone's attention. I know he's been hurt, but at 26, is Burriss considered a prospect or organizational guy at this point? Considering OPS, guy just doesn't seem to have what it takes to hit in the majors.
ReplyDeleteDon't know about what Beavan throws. He's a big kid. A lot of these guys evolve over time. Before the 2008 draft he was a typical FB/slider HS pitcher who got it up to about 94 MPH.
ReplyDeleteGiven the dearth of middle infielders at the major league level as well as dropoff in league-wide power numbers, yes, I think Burriss is still a prospect. His best chance is if he can play SS or multiple positions. He seeems to be taking the multiple positions approach right now. I know there are some who would vehemently disagree with me, but I think you can throw OPS out the window when it comes to leadoff/speed hitters. It's all about OBP, SB's and SB percentage from that position. The #9 slot can be used for that in the AL too.
