AAA  Sacramento River Cats outlasted the Fresno Grizzlies 4-3(10 innings):

Chris Shaw DH- 2 for 4, HR(16), BB.  BA= .257.
Miguel Gomez 2B- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .281.
Jeff Samardzija RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, 2 HR.  ERA= 5.29.

Ray Black RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.05.

This QS will likely be enough to get Jeff Samardzija off the DL, but he's still giving up dingers and more dingers.

AA  Harrisburg Senators outscored the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-6:

Ryan Howard SS- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .285.

Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 3 for 6, 2B.  BA= .253.
Ryan Kirby 1B- 3 for 4, 2 2B, HBP.  BA= .232.
Logan Baldwin RF- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(18).  BA= .249.

Franklin Van Gurp RHP- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.77.

Wild line for Garret Cave.  The 6/1 K/BB looks great but the 4 HBP, not so much.  Heliot Ramos and Jacob Gonzalez continue to keep their head above water in a tough hitting environment.

Rumor that Joey Bart will be joining the S-K Volcanoes on July 4.  Giants are bringing their top draft picks along slowly.

  1. Trevor Abrams continues to be a story but can an undrafted Sonoma State senior "learn" to hit a year after leaving college?
He appears to be a "good" corner IFer without much power. He's "big" at 6-4 but (only) 215#s.
    Living the dream!

  2. Although he got beat-up some yesterday, 22 yo Norwith Gudino in 23.1 innings this year @ S-K & SJ has K/BB 25/0 & AO/GO 1.56

  3. More love for Ray Black ... column at Mc C today.

  4. Since Mac's back-to-back games with HRs on his return to the River Cats, he's 1-14 (1B) & 9 Ks along with 4 W and 1 HBP.

    Kelby's last 6 games: 3-24 with 8Ks.

Since his back-to-back appearances 11 days ago (June 21-22), Ray Black has pitched 4 scoreless innings separated by 1 & 2 days off, striking out the side in his last 2 outings.
Can the Giants carry a pitcher who throws an inning every other day?
Maybe. If he was closing, Giants would need a back-up and they have 2 (Smith & Watson), or 3 (& Dyson), or 4 (& Moronta or Melancon).
Would it have been fun to see him last night facing off with Nolan Arenado? Woo hoo!

    From Yahoo:
Arenado said, “I just get pissed because I don’t want to lose anymore. I’ve only been to the playoffs once and it was only one game. And I really want more than that.”
Indeed, the Rockies lost the 2017 NL Wild Card game 11-8 to the Diamondbacks, their only postseason appearance during Arenado’s career.
Arenado continued, “I’m tired of coming to the ballpark and losing. We work too hard as a group to experience that. I’m not saying I go home questioning, like, ‘I don’t like this place.’ I love it here. But yeah, I want to win. And the more we lose, the more I — if you lose all the time, nobody wants to be there.”
The Rockies have Arenado under team control for one more year as he enters his fourth and final year of arbitration eligibility after the season.
