Down on the Farm: 7/17/2018

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies mauled the Sacramento River Cats 8-3:

Ryder Jones 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .305.
Jose Valdez RHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 6.75.
Steven Okert LHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.00.

Ryder Jones is having one of the best under-the-radar AAA seasons I can remember!

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels vs Erie Seawolves postponed by rain.

A+  San Jose Giants were idle.

Low A  Rome Braves defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 6-4(Game 1 of DH, 7 innings):

Heliot Ramos CF- 1 for 4, SB(7).  BA= .246.
Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .258.
Ismael Munguia LF- 2 for 3, 3B.  BA= .667.

Welcome to full season A ball, Ismael Munguia!  He may have been held back by an injury, but this is the level he has earned a shot at.

Low A  Rome Braves beat the Augusta Greenjackets 5-1:

Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 1 for 3, 3B.  BA= .259.
Jose Marte RHP- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.84.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.82.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Eugene Emeralds 6-2:

Joey Bart C- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .326.
David Villar 3B- 2 for 3, 2B, SF.  BA= .282.
Wander Alexander Franco 1B- 3 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .250.
Sean Hjelle RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.   BA= 1.50.
Doug Still LHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.84.

I know there is no reason to rush Joey Bart, but my goodness!  He seems way too good for the NWL. I'm thinking Cal League would be a nice challenge for him over the last month of the minor league season.  Doug Still has 29 K's against 7 BB in 21.2 IP with 3 different teams this season.  He was the Giants 11'th round draft pick in 2017 but did not make his pro debut until this season.

*********************************************************************************

Rookie AZL  Giants Orange and Giants Black were both idle.

*********************************************************************************

DSL  Mariners blanked the Giants 2-0(7 innings, completed early due to rain.

Richgelon Juliana CF- 1 for 1, HBP.  BA= .291.
Juan Sanchez LHP- 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.56.

  1. Bart: Yes, he's raking. And while it's completely small-sample of no real meaning, he's hitting better than Posey did in A-short. So, yeah, I'd also like to see him move up to San Jose.

  2. But how is Bart’s D? He is displaying an amazing bat, but he still plays the most important, demanding position.

    1. I've seen a few highlights. He picked a guy off third with a 79 mph throw from his knees yesterday or today... Also he has the same error-rate as Posey did at those levels (1 per 6 games).

All still 'way to small sample size' but nothing is screaming "uh-oh!"

  3. Early innings but so far no. 3 Draft Pick (Phillies) Alec Bohm is not impressing. Maybe it is going too far to say he is BOHMing.
