Robinson Medrano with 5 HR's trails only Curtis Terry of the Spokane Indians who leads the NWL with 7.  RHP Gregory Santos looking terrific at 18.  Very young for the league.

Rookie AZL  Giants Black beat the Angels 4-2:

Alexander Canario CF- 2 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .184.
Frankie Tostado DH- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .314.

After a 1 for 25 start to the season, Alexander Canario is 5 for 13 over his last 3 games.  In case you are wondering who Angel Guzman is, he is the Giants 21'st round draft pick out of HS(PR).  He is 18 yo.

Rookie AZL  Giants Orange edged out the Cubs1 4-3:

Ismael Munguia LF- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .409.
Joey Bart DH- 1 for 5, 3B.  BA= .222.
George Bell CF- 1 for 4, BB, SB(1).  BA= .342.
Andres Angulo C- 2 for 3, BB, SB(1).  BA= .143.
Austin Edgette RF- 1 for 3, SF.  BA= .273.
Jasier Herrera RHP- 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.08.
Ryan Walker RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Ismael Munguia hit .331 for the AZL Giants last year, so I'm surprised he is not playing at a higher level.  Maybe he had an injury and this is a rehab assignment? Joey Bart missed a couple of games but has played the last 2.  He's kind of off to a slow start to his pro career.

DSL  Giants were idle.

  1. Giants taking a HAUL of international OFers! 3 of the Top 20 OF prospects on the international scene, including Marco Luciano, who many well known scouts consider the best hitter in the class. Pretty nice to add to a solid draft. I don't have any data or proof, but I've always felt like the international signings come as more of a lottery - with a way higher potential for both Booms and Busts.

If even one of Luciano, Matos, and Pomeraz can make an impact at the MLB level, that is always worth it!

  2. Alert to this Board: MLB Prospect of the Week Class aka MLB Pipeline's Team of the Week (Mike Rosenbaum, Presenter) features Ray Black as the top minor league pitching prospect for the week. This is for all MLB teams, not limited to SF Giants mind you. Black had to be beat out dozens of prospects for all teams to earn this honor.

    1. They’re finally letting him go back to back so he can get to the bigs.

    2. I also saw this, and was confounded to read Bochy quoted as saying that Black’s history of repeated injuries and his practice of pitching only one inning of relief rather than multiple innings worked against him at a time when the team needed durability and already enjoyed a good group of single-inning relievers.

    3. yeah who needs a lights out reliever who throws gas for one inning - sounds like a closer or set up man to me!

  3. Saw this tidbit on a Fantaphs post:
"Speaking of high-spin curveballs, the Giants have a teenager who has a 3,000-plus RPM curveball. Julio Rodriguez, 18, sits 85-89 with natural cut and has a low-70s curveball that spins in anywhere between 2,900 and 3,100 RPM on the Trackman laptop visible at Giants AZL home games. He’s a soft-bodied 6-foot-3, 180 and has below-average present arm speed, but knowing he can spin a curveball like that makes him more interesting than the other pitchers in the AZL with 40 fastballs."
