Game Wrap 7/3/2018: Rockies 8 Giants 1

Second legs of road trips have not been kind to the Giants this season and Coors Field is not the place you would expect to see a break in this trend and Chris Stratton did not seem like the pitcher who would either.  The Giants apparently did not recover from game one's disappointment and suffered a brutal beatdown in a harmonic convergence of bad vibes.  Key Lines:

Alen Hanson LF- 2 for 4.  BA= .287.  Hanson had been in a 1 for 12 skid coming in so it's good to see him break out of that.

Brandon Belt 1B- 2 for 4.  BA= .298.  Belt and Hanson had 4 of the Giants 6 hits, all singles.

Chris Stratton RHP- 5.2 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.93.  Probably should give Stratton a Coors Field Mulligan, but his previous start was rough too.  With Cueto and Samardzija coming back this week, gotta wonder where that leaves Stratton.

The NL West leading D'Backs beat the Cardinals 4-2 while the 2'nd place Dodgers topped the Pirates 8-3.   That left the 3'rd place Giants 3.5 games out of first place while the Dodgers remained 1.5 games out.  The Rockies stayed in 4'th place, 5 games behind the leaders while the Last Place Padres lost to the A's 6-2 to fall 11.5 games off the pace.

Andrew Suarez hopes for a better outcome to salvage game 3 of the series against Lefty Tyler Anderson on Independence Day.

  1. Stratton just needs a nice rest in Sacramento while Shark has another go. Suarez and Rodriguez have been excellent, Holland not so much but sounds like he'll get a 6th starter/longman job, Maybe Johnson goes to SAC with Stratton? We all wonder whether Shark is going to win and if not how long do we have to suffer watching him lose games...

  2. Johnson, Stratton,& Blach: two go, one stays, who's the winner?
Stratton will go so he can start games in Sacramento.
Holland will be one "long"guy" -- who will be the other, Johnson or Blach?
Johnson, so there is a RHP available to eat innings, plus there are already 3 LHP in the 'pen.

  3. Holland (lefty) went to the bullpen yesterday. I think who gets sent down will be determined by Suarez's start today. If he blows up, he goes down, otherwise I think Blach since he's also a lefty and, with Holland in the pen, we'll have four lefties of which two will be long-relievers.

  4. Stratton going down. Holland to the pen. That’s what all the beat writers have. Johnson probably DFA.

    1. Well, that's news since I read it earlier this morning. None of them had anything but 'Holland to pen.'

  6. By 4 PM Sunday, we will know a LOT!
What will we think about the rotation in the next 5 days?
With 2 rookies in it out-pitching all the guys who might have been (and some were) in it.
    How long?
    March 23rd, MLB.com/new/giants:
SF gets bad injury news on MadBum, Shark
Ace fractures left hand, out 4-6 weeks; Samardzija will miss 3-5 weeks
    Ha! That was optimistic!

The Giants seem able to make journeyman pitchers look like all stars?
