Down on the Farm: 8/8/2017

AAA  Iowa Cubs outlasted the Sacramento River Cats 6-5 in 11 innings:

Chris Shaw LF- 3 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .292.
Mac Williamson RF- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .224.
Melvin Upton Jr. CF- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .333.
Dusten Knight RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.18.
Reyes Maronta RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.57.
DJ Snelton LHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.80.

-I had long since forgotten Melvin Upton Jr was in the Giants organization.  This was just his second appearance of the season, the last being on July 1.  And why not?  Maybe we will see both him and Pablo Sandoval in the lineup before the season is over?
-Knight, Maronta and Snelton could all be part of a future Giants bullpen.

AA  Portland Sea Dogs beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-0:

Tyler Herb RHP- 7 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 2.95.

-Since giving up 5 runs in 5 IP in his Richmond debut on 7/8, Herb has thrown 5 consecutive QS's

High A  Stockton Ports outscored the San Jose Giants 9-5:

Jonah Arenado 3B- 2 for 5.  BA= .264.
Dillon Dobson 1B- 1 for 4, HR(13), BB.  BA= .244.
Matt Winn C- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(5).  BA= .237.
Steven Duggar RF- 1 for 3, HR(3), 2 BB.  BA= .247.
Mark Melancon RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 13.50.
Rodolfo Martinez RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

-Melancon's appearance was a little more encouraging than his last one.

Low A  Rome Braves blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 4-0:

Melvin Adon RHP- 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.82.
Sandro Cabrera LHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.51.

*********************************************************************************

Short Season  Hillsboro Hops crushed the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 11-2:

Malique Ziegler CF- 0 for 4, 4 K's.  BA= .278.
Logan Baldwin RF- 2 for 3, 3B, SF.  BA= .367.
Logan Webb RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.81.

-Alas!  My man, Malique Ziegler, has gone cold and takes a 4 K collar in this one.

AZL  Giants were idle.

DSL  Giants vs D'Backs PPD

  1. Yeah the Giants have some potential options for the bullpen waiting in Sacramento. It will be interesting see how the Giants manage this in the future. Hopefully Snelton came make the inconsistency of Osich and Okert a nonissue, and lock down the other LHP bullpen spot with a healthy Will Smith next season. Logan Webb should have "Bad to the Bone" as his intro music. It took him 9 pitches to strike out the 3 batters he faced.

    1. Giants are taking it slow with Logan Webb coming off TJ surgery, but his numbers out of the bullpen for S-K are impressive. I am bullish on his future and hope he gets another shot at starting.

    2. He's only 20, so they've got 'take it slow' time.

  2. Supposedly he is throwing harder post TJ. I've read reports he's throwing 93-96 now.

    1. And he hit another today. And struck out once in 4 ABs. Continues to hit a HR per 20 ABs.
