The Giants and Matt Moore battled the Nationals and Max Scherzer to a 2-2 tie in regulation only to see their efforts crushed by a Howie Kendrick walkout grand slam in the 11'th inning. Key Lines:
Joe Panik 2B- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .271. Panik is hot right now. He went 5 for 9 in the doubleheader with and added a BB. Unfortunately he got a mitt facial from Matt Wieters while trying to score what might well have been the winning run as the trailing runner in the 4'th inning.
Pablo Sandoval 3B- 1 for 4, HR(5). BA= .218. Pabs is slashing .240/.240/440 in 7 games since joining the Giants on August 5.
Matt Moore LHP- 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 5.71. This is what the Giants were hoping to get out of Moore in at least 2/3's of his starts. Can he put together a string of these and convince the Giants to keep him this offseason?
Albert Suarez RHP- 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.75. Suarez runs hot and cold. He struck out the side in the 10'th innings bringing back memories of an extra-inning effort by one, Yusmeiro Petit, but the roof collapsed in the 11'th as he went single, single walk, grand salami without recording an out.

The Giants move on to Miami where Ty Blach opens the series against Adam Conley in a battle of lefties.

One of the announcers for the double header compared Suarez to Petit in the 10th when he was striking out the side. And he looked amazing during that inning as he made some hitters look rather foolish. Not so much in the 11th...
ReplyDeleteI hated to see what happened to Panik, what with his concussion past. It looked like the ball bounced square off his face then into Wieters glove, both announcers thought that. On that concussion note, sports talk radio feels the Giants should shut down Belt for the season after his 4th concussion. I feel ive read your in the medical industry, what are your thoughts on that?

Panik probably should have come out of the game after the collision. He sure looked like he may have suffered a mild concussion, and there really is not such thing as a mild concussion.
DeleteAs for Belt, they need to make sure he is fully recovered before he comes back but I would not just automatically shut him down. On the other hand, is there anything we still don't know about Belt as a player that would change next year's plans? I don't think so.
this is why they need to automatically remove a player after any hits to the head and have mandatory concussion protocol like the nfl and have independent neurologists in the dugout. i think panik will head to the concussion dl as a precaution and you might have calixte stay up.
