Down on the Farm: 8/25/2017

AAA  Sacramento River Cats vs El Paso Chihuahuas postponed.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels quieted the Trenton Thunder 5-3:

CJ Hinojosa SS- 2 for 5, 2 2B.   BA= .276.
Aramis Garcia C- 4 for 5, 3 2B.  BA= .259.
Dan Slania RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.62.
Tyler Cyr RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(18).  ERA= 2.14.

-Hopefully this is a breakout game for Garcia at the AA level.

High A San Jose Giants defeated the Stockton Ports  7-4:

Bryan Reynolds CF- 1 for 3, HR(9), 2 BB, SB(4).  BA= .307.
Jonah Arenado 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .271.
Ryan Howard SS- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .309.
Gio Brusa LF- 1 for 3, SF.  BA= .232.
Matt Solter RHP- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.57.
Matt Krook LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 5.24.

-Jonah Arenado is showing no signs of taking his foot off the pedal coming down the stretch.
-I think this is the second consecutive strong relief appearance for Matt Krook.

*********************************************************************************

Low A  Greenville Drive beat the Augusta Greenjackets 3-1:

Raffi Vizcaino RHP- 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 11 K.  ERA= 5.40.
Melvin Adon RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.52.

-Not sure if this is a permanent move to the bullpen for Adon or if the Giants are just limiting his innings.  He's not that young and he could be a fast mover in a bullpen role.

*********************************************************************************

Short Season  Eugene Emeralds topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8-3:

Bryce Johnson CF- 1 for 4, BB, 2 SB(24).  BA= .330.

  1. I would like to see Crick as the 7th inning setup reliever next year. If they want to keep Panda in 2018, not sure how that would work. Do they sign him for the minimum MLB salary for 1 year, with Boston still on the hook for the contract he signed with them?

    1. Giants have options to keep Pablo at minimum MLB salary for 2018 and 2019. Boston is on the hook for everything else in his contract with them.

    2. Can the Giants set conditions? Prescribe conditioning? If they assign him to Sacramento, does he have to go there? Has his contract with the Giants been published?

If Sandoval starts the season on the 25-man active roster, only 3 of all these young players will be (4 with 12 pitchers): Arroyo, Slater, Shaw, Parker, Tomlinson, Jones, Gomez, Moncrief, Gillaspie, Hernandez, Williamson, Calixte, Duggar, Hwang, Heathcott (a guy who has actually played CF in the major leagues), and a few more that might shine in ST but there's no room so SF can sell more panda hats!
It's a numbers game unless the Giants decide to cut bait on some "players" who aren't really going to help.
      Span comes to mind.
They could trade for prospects, but who's the bait there? They couldn't shed anyone July 31st, what's the likelihood now?
      None chances.
