Jarrett Parker hit an impressive solo HR. Madison Bumgarner gave up 2 solo HR's. That was the ballgame. Key Lines:
Jarrett Parker LF- 2 for 4, 3B, HR(2). BA= .262. Parker is making his case to be the Giants starting LF next year. He added a line drive triple into the RF Triples Triangle in his next AB but it came with 2 outs and he as left stranded. Parker is hitting .294 with a .500 SLG% since returning from the DL on August 3.
Joe Panik 2B- 2 for 3. BA= .272. The only other bright spot on offense, Panik shook off his concussion DL stint to hit 2 knocks.
Ryder Jones 1B- 0 for 2. BA= .186. Sad to say, Jones just doesn't look quite ready to hit MLB pitching and should not be counted on to start next season on the 25 man roster.
Madison Bumgarner LHP- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.85. Bum made 2 mistake pitches and paid for it. He got his usual P-poor run support.

Thanks to Belt's concussion, Jones has had an extensive look-see, longer than results merit. He has shown a little power and reasonable defense at both corner IF positions, and he's young. Without a hot ST next year, he'll get to work things out in Sacramento -- he's still pretty young and not many tear it up the first call.
ReplyDeleteThat would give Sandoval a boost, should he weigh into the mix.
"...weigh into the mix." LOL Pablo!
DeleteMore likely a "waisted" effort...
DeleteJones: Yeah, he's totally not ready. He's been so overwhelmed at the plate so far that both Bumgarner and Blach have better BAs.
ReplyDeleteBumgarner: Also got struck out on a bad call. It wasn't even questionable. So, at that point, after all the tension... I just called it a night... At least it didn't get any worse after I turned it off.
the youngsters could benefit from a new hitting coach next season
ReplyDeleteHitting coaches are always convenient scapegoats, but how much difference do they really make? For several years, Hensley Meulens seemed like a pretty significant upgrade on what the Giants had at hitting coach before him. Did he suddenly forget how to teach hitting? I'm not sure Walt Hrniak, Harry "The Hat" Walker and Ted Williams combined could turn this into a good hitting team.
