Just read this: RHP Chris Stratton will be called up from Triple-A Sacramento and will take RHP Matt Cain's turn in the rotation, Bochy said. Cain will likely pitch out of the bullpen.
ReplyDeleteCain's days are so obviously numbered that it's pretty sad to watch the progression of indignities to his career. Looses his #1 spot. Looses his #2 spot. Looses his #4 spot. Looses his #5 spot. Not much left to lose.
I wonder if he'll retire or force a buy-out. If it were me... I'd just retire. Sure, after taxes a buy-out would be worth a few million. But unless he's been a complete idiot, he should have tens of millions in investments.
Slade Heathcott was 10-25 with the Yankees in 2015, but had issues.
ReplyDeleteHe had a an up-hill childhood beginning with an unmarried teenage mother, then a convicted adopted father. Beset with injuries, he was an alcoholic by the time he made the major leagues, but he managed a couple HRs.
Before the Giants spend big bucks on a outfielder, they should see what they have here. He's married now with a child, if he's put his troubles behind him and can stay healthy, he could be an answer. He has not been on the DL this year.
They won't know anything from his status with the River Cats -- he should be put into the Giants outfield now with a good mentor (Pence?) to dog him. He's still young, 27 in September, and maybe mature now. Of ALL the Giants OFers, on the team and in the system, he may have the highest short term potential, meaning 2018. He needs a spot on the 40-man, Michael Morse does not.
Oh, MLB.com has a good article on Ramos. I really liked this bit:

He's 17! He almost certainly hasn't even finished growing into his strength yet. And he hit that monster. If he did that in an MLB game, it would have been one of the Top-10 distance homeruns of the season and he'd be up there with guys like Stanton & Goldschmidt.
