AAA Sacramento River Cats edged out the Reno Aces 7-6:
Conor Gillaspie 1B- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(3). BA= .242.
Mac Williamson RF- 3 for 5, 2 HR(12). BA= .232.
Tim Fedorowicz C- 3 for 5, HR(8). BA= .292.
Roberto Gomez RHP- 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.41.
Reyes Maronta RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.86.
Tyler Rogers RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(9). ERA= 2.00.
-Mac is hitting .329 over his last 8 games with 3 dingers. Overall a very disappointing season for Mac, but I still think he is the best bet long term for the Giants in LF. Not to root for Jarrett Parker to fail but maybe Mac gets a look in September if Parker continues to struggle?
-I'm a bit frustrated the Giants did not get something, anything, for Nick Hundley at the trade deadline. Fedex seems adequate as a backup MLB C, especially since the Giants aren't going anywhere this year anyway.

Are you kidding me with Mac Williamson in LF, Doc? I may have a poor memory, but Mac is a clone replica of Nate Schierholtz (including the good defense, potentially) with "John Bowker" level power. I.e. He's absolutely not an MLB level player, and I say that as someone who held out hope for the longest time with Mac (even though I was not impressed when I saw him in San Jose, and I posed as such here about it). He's "random-injury" prone, hitting sub .240 in the Hitter-Friendly PCL, with a .159 MLB average including 1 XBH in 12 games. Slow bat, with a dismal approach at the plate, that's not a combo that develops over time.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I just can't get on that train, there's absolutely nothing there to even grab onto for me - perhaps you see it differently. We get to watch as these kids come up, and if you don't have it...you don't have it. I'm a little concerned that Arroyo, honestly, may not ever develop into much more than a .270-.280 hitting 3B man with 10HR power, but that jury is still out - kid was very young for an MLB call-up (actually, 22...not THAT young). Mac, on the other hand, is literally 27y/o. If you haven't made it by now, you're probably not going to be the "long term answer for LF."
That said, not trying to insult you Doc, please don't take offense. Just really disappointed in where the Giants are at, and I'm not going to fool myself. They had resources, held them all, and watched them all decline slowly over time while giving out a few terrible contracts and bringing in NO NEW ENERGY. Rubbish way to maintain a winning organization, certainly not the Bill Walsh approach, but there aren't a lot of Bill Washes out there in the world I guess..
Mac has had three partial-years in AAA with a .247 average in the PCL. Parker has four partial/complete-years in AAA not that he set it on fire with his .274. Neither one has set the majors on fire. Anyway, I've pretty much given up on both.
DeleteInstead I'd like to see Slater & Shaw come up opening day with Duggar coming up September, 2018.
Neither Mac nor Parker really earned the shot based on minor league numbers, but the Giants didn't have many options.
DeleteFelt bad for Parker busting his collar-bone chasing down one of the MANY shots we've seen off of Moore this year. I don't know, though. If you can live with the low BA and high K's, he'll hit you 25-30 bombs. Worth it, or just another way of saying Chris Carter (with good D)?
I think it's unlikely either Parker or Mac will figure into 2018 plans.
Kinda agree with RainBall on Arroyo. Giants doing what they can with low 1st round picks. Getting workmen (Panik, Arroyo...Stratton...maybe). But these guys are not going to carry this team forward. Supporting cast.
After a 2018 run (in which mostly EVERYTHING has to go right) we're in a tear down situation.
Maybe they weren't offered much for Hundley and he has a good rapport with the pitching staff and it was a comfort thing of not trying to upset the apple cart any more than it's already been upset. Hoping Giants bring up a bunch of their pitching prospect, starters/relief to see how the fare against MLP's, can't hurt.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right, but if Hundley's not in the 2018 game plan, anything was better than nothing. Long shots sometimes pay off. Nothing is gonna pay off in 2018.
