The Giants played poorly in all facets of the game in a blowout loss to the Marlins. Key Lines:
Hunter Pence(.256), Jarrett Parker(.250)- 2 hits each.
Matt Cain RHP- 4 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 5.19. That is actually a dominant pitching line. Cainer was betrayed by his defense in the first inning as the leadoff batter reached on catcher's interference and Brandon Crawford made a key error to keep the inning alive for the Marlins. The K and BB numbers are dominant.
Albert Suarez RHP- 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 1 K. ERA= 7.24. Suarez went from dominating to overwhelmed in 1 inning in his last appearance. He did not recover today. Suarez can look great at times but those times are way too few and far between.

Rumors are that Giants have been speaking to the Marlins about Stanton. Not sure how much truth there is to that but it would make sense. Put him in the middle of the lineup and everything else makes more sense question is always cost and impact long term if for some reason he doesn't perform

Trade for what? And do you realize that he's locked up for 10 more years with $295 million due over that time? He's a bloody expensive player and I just don't see where we the chips to play on that table.

Stanton probably can hit HRs in AT&T as well as Bonds.

I wouldn't trade Samardzija. The bottom line is that despite his ERA, much of which comes from being victimized by horrible OF play, he has managed as many, or more, Quality Starts than the Ace of 18 other MLB teams. When your pitching depends on Out Field Fielding and you have this mess:
DeleteThere have been 17 OFers play for the Giants this year. Only two -- Parker & Slater -- have a positive DRS. Five have no DRS (positive or negative). The other 10 OFers have a negative DRS to a combined total of -47 DRS.
The OFers with the most innings are Span, Hernandez & Pence. Span is the worst OFer on the team and is Pagan-2015 bad with -22 DRS. Hernandez is no Blanco and has a -9 DRS. Pence is at -6 DRS as he continues the slow age degradation.
It's kind of tough. Which his why, in part, his ERA is 4.74 and his FIP/xFIP are 3.46 & 3.36 respectively. Add in he's a durable hoss... There's just no way I'd trade him. Especially as for what he costs... There are a lot of FA who get paid more who are performing a lot worse. And replacing him, with what he brings to the club for what he costs, wouldn't be so easy.

Plus you have to give something to get something, but Jeter & Co would want several of our hotshots that we should never-ever let go no matter. Maybe he'd settle for our very special SS?

Yep, you could throw Belt into the deal to relieve some off the financial strain on the payroll. Also, if I recall, Stanton has some type of opt out as well in his contract that even the owner of the Marlins said it was structured so they wouldn't have to pay the entire thing over time. He's almost the perfect fit for us and a premier player in the game, you almost have to seriously consider it, it immediately makes you a legit contender for years.
