When the Giants took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 3'rd inning, this seemed like a promising game. Then the BABIP gods went to work evening the ledger on Ty Blach who got a lot of groundball outs but also gave up a lot of groundball basehits. Key Lines:
Denard Span CF- 1 for 5, 2B. BA= .267. Span's ground rule double to drive in 2 runs was the big blow of the game for the Giants, which proved to be not nearly enough.
Hunter Pence and Nick Hundley had 2 hits each, all singles.
Ty Blach LHP- 6 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.37. Blach's impeccable control was not impeccable today and the BABIP gods took their revenge. Hey! You live by BABIP, you die by BABIP! He's also been great at keeping the ball in the yard, but gave up dingers to Stanton and Osuna. I should mention that Stanton's shot was his 43'rd of the season Does he have a shot at 60?

Giants might get some slack with a late night flight following 3 games in a little over 24 hours, BUT:
ReplyDelete3 for 16 and 2 W for the 1st 4 batters will only get you runs when 7 & 8 get in scoring position with 1 out.
Contrast that with Marlins 8 for 17 and 2 W for the 1st 4 batters.
Our TV guys said Dee Gordon got down the line in 3.5 (?) -- he can literally steal first!
Tired or not, the Giants have 4 active position players with oWAR's greater than 0.0, and one is the back-up catcher.
ReplyDeleteIs it time for the "R's" (Replacements) to be played!
There are 3 pitchers with oWAR's greater than 0.0 -- is it time for Bumgarner at 1B, Blach in left, and Cain @ third?
LOL
ReplyDeleteKuiper in 3rd inning Tuesday: "Parker may be streaky."
Ya think?
