Game Wrap 10/1/2012: Dodgers 3 Giants 2

The Giants missed an opportunity to eliminate the Dodgers from postseason competition when Santiago Casilla gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 9'th inning.  Key Lines:

Angel Pagan- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .287.  Pagan has been in a mini-slump.  He doubled in the 8'th and scored the tying run.

Marco Scutaro- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .305.  Scutaro had also been looking like he didn't feel 100%.  Good game tonight.

Buster Posey- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .336.  Buster still has a .007 lead in the race for the batting title.  He came out of the game with back spasms after running to first base on a grounder.  Hope it's more precautionary than a big problem.

Aubrey Huff- 1 for 1.  BA= .192.  Huffy is 3 for 11 with 2 BB's in his last 10 appearances.

Matt Cain- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.79.  Cainer looked reasonably sharp.  Ethier owns him for some reason.  Not too many batters you can say that about.

Santiago Casilla- 0.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K's.  ERA= 2.87.  Casilla seems more comfortable as a 7'th inning/high leverage guy, not that this was a closing situation.  IDK, I really thought he was back on track as recently as a week ago.

The Cardinals beat the Red 4-2 in St Louis to maintain a 2 game lead on the Dodgers in the race for the final Wild Card berth, now with 2 games to go.  The Nationals lost to the Phillies 2-0 to remain tied with the Reds for the best record in the NL.  I think the Nats hold the tiebreaker on that one.

Barry Zito goes against Chris Capuano in game 2 of the final series while Mat Latos goes against Chris Carpenter in the Reds-Cards matchup.

  1. I thought he was on track too, and my assumption was that he would take over the closer role this week or in the playoffs. That Bochy used him here like this suggests that they were thinking the same, but the results obviously hurt the chances of this happening now.

Yeah, Nats hold the tiebreaker by beating Cincy this season.

  2. Normally I would have had a Big Sad after a walk-off loss to the Bums. But damn, I just don't have to care that much - and it's sunny and warm out at the beach. Two beer afternoon. Go Giants, as always beat the Bums.
