2012 NLDS Game 1 Live Blog

Terrific first inning by Matt Cain helped out by a sensational over-the-rail catch by Brandon Belt.  K of Joey Votto is a great sign.  Now the offense needs to put Cueto back on his heels.

Beautiful evening at the ballpark!

Wish we could have Kruk and Kuip and Amy G.

Pagan got a couple of good swings in there but gets rung up.  A little gamesmanship during the AB stepping out of the box at the last minute despite not getting the timeout.

Cueto might be hurt. I wonder if the aborted pitch on the time out might have pulled something?

Cueto is out of the game!  I would think Mike Leake is he backup.

Lecure comes in.  Wow!  Is this going to be a strictly bullpen game or will the Reds try to get through the inning and the put in Leake or Bailey?

There goes the Perfecto.  Cain looked like he was on fire there.

Cain gives up the double to Bruce but got the next two batters.  He looks very strong to me.  Another nice defensive play by Belt.  Defense at first base is an underrated asset.

Latos warming up.  Not sure how I feel about that.  This could mean they have to face the Evil One twice in the series.

Bottom of the order rallies.  Cainer hits it hard with the bases loaded but it's caught by the RF.  We'll see Latos next inning.

Dang it!  Cainer strikes out the guy trying to sacrifice then gives up the bomb to Phillips.

Cainer seems to have gotten thrown off his horse by that dinger.  Gotta pull it together here, Matt!

And the DP gets him out of it!

Nice AB for Sandoval.  Latos is missing his targets high.

And Bruce goes deep.   Now, THAT is not good!

Getting the feeling this one is not meant to be as Belt hits a rocket right at Votto for the easy DP.

Finally!  Buster goes deep!!  Nice inning by Kontos.

Well, now the wheels are coming off.  Casilla is imploding and Buster seemed to lose concentration there.

I was going to say I thought their chance was against Broxton, but let's see what they can do against Chapman.  Pretty tough to see them coming back from this deficit against the flamethrower.

Nice AB by Arias.

Chapman is dangerous out there.  He has no idea where it's going!

Haven't seen triple digits yet.  96 MPH is slow for Chapman.

There was 100.  Pablo put a good swing on it.  Down to Buster with the bases juiced!

Buster took 3 good rips but it wasn't to be.

Thanks for stopping by folks.  Full Game Wrap to follow.

  1. Belt robbed twice now. Let's see what the baseball gods have in store late.

    1. I think my storyline in the Game Wrap will be that this was kind of a reverse BAPIP game. Giants had a lot of scorchers hit right at people as well as some fluky defense from Ludwick.

  2. ludwick is not a good defender...it was like he really had an angel on his shoulder

pence isnt a good defender either...that broken bat single stayed up long enough for a guy with avg speed to catch up to

belt robbed, pablo robbed, even cain robbed

cuzzi should not be allowed to make up his own k zone

chapman throws hard, but really, all he has is the fastball and give the guys a few more bats against him and he is hittable...its not like he gets a ton of movement

reality time...gonna be nigh on impossible to come back and win the series in cinci...even if they win tomorrow

if it does go 5, i do not have cain going

    1. So, Bacci,

Why not Cain in Game 5 and who would you start instead?

  3. If we had a break here and there this game could have been won.

    1. Yup. Nothing went the Giants way in this one. Liked the way they kept fighting to the end.

  4. Tip cap to phillips he is a ballplayer. Casilla wet the bed. The reds made a lot of nice plays.

Blanco needed to put the bat on that broxton pitch. He had a very nice game though. Belt did as well.

I thought we were getting to chapman nicely. Too little too late. Series is over when it's over. We will see how much fight we have tomorrow.

    1. Agree on Blanco. Pitch was too close to take. Either poke it the other way or foul it off and live to see another pitch.

  5. Hey team! It's getting real late for me and I'm very tired. Worked this AM, mowed the lawn this afternoon and watched the game tonight.

    Game Wrap in the morning.

  6. There were 10 or so plays that decided that ball game and all went the reds way. If even half are just 6 inches one way or the other i think the giants win. Totally BABIP night just frustrating to watch.

    1. Playoffs are a small sample size. Teams can have a run of good or bad luck that decides the outcome. You have to have a good team to make the playoffs. It's a crapshoot after that.
