BA has a nice article up on minor league FA's who made the biggest impact at the MLB level this year. Gregor Blanco and Joaquin Arias ranked #1 and #6 respectively. That got me interested in WAR numbers for each of them so I looked them up on Fangraphs. Blanco had a WAR of 2.4 in 453 PA's while Arias' WAR was exactly 1.0 in 344 PA's. All in all, the Giants reaped a stupendous $18 M worth of approximate value out of these two players at a combined cost of under $1 M. What's even better is both of these players are still under 30 yo, have tools that give them further upside and have little enough service time that they can be kept for minimum salary again next season. 2 reserve spots on the roster that are already filled cheaply with Blanco, at least, contending for a starting role.

It's awesome that your keeping us up to date on the Arizona Fall League. I always have a hard time finding box scores for the games. Any news on Brett Bochy?
ReplyDeleteBochy got shut down with a tired arm late in the season. I doubt he will do anything but a throwing program over the fall and winter.
