A 5-run rally by the Giants in the 5'th inning carried the Giants to a win in the first game of a critical mid-season series against the division rival D'Backs who also happen to be in first place in the NL West. Key Lines:
Lamonte Wade Jr 1B- 2 for 4. BA= .284. LMWJ picked up where he left off 4 days ago when he felt some tightness in his side. He did not look hampered on his swings tonight.
J. D. Davis 3B- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .284. Davis continues to give the Giants plus D at 3B while raking at the plate. Hard to believe the Mets couldn't wait to get rid of him last season because he's been nothing but terrific for the Giants ever since and has largely overcome a bad rap on defense in the process.
Michael Conforto RF- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .237. Conforto was in a significant slump going 1 for 24 in his previous 8 games. He broke out of that tonight just in time to pick up YtY who went on the IL after experiencing more discomfort in his hammy area prior to the game.
Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 3, HR(4), BB. BA= .330. Bailey had brutal splits against LHP's all through the minor leagues but has reversed that so far at the MLB level hitting .414 with 3 of his 4 HR's. His 2-run blast off Joe Mantiply LHP capped the Giants scoring for the night. It's still a small sample size but extends over a month's worth of games.
Logan Webb RHP- 7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 12/2. ERA= 3.16. Webb got touched up a bit but lasted 7 innings and ended up with another QS. Nice that he had some early run support tonight.
The Win closed the gap on the first place D'Backs to 2.5 games. The Giants also are 0.5 games ahead of the Dodgers and Marlins for the first Wild Card playoff spot.
Ryan Walker RHP opens tomorrow afternoon against Merrill Kelly RHP who always seems to give the Giants a tough game. Keaton Winn RHP, Tristan Beck RHP and Sean Manaea LHP should be available for multiple innings tomorrow.
Churn Watch: Not a huge surprise that Mike Yastrzemski OF went on the IL after he felt more discomfort in the left hammy area. Isan Diaz IF was recalled from AAA Sacramento though he played for the A San Jose Giants yesterday.
Giants depth is getting tested. Not sure they can take any more hits to it. If they can at least hang tight until people get healthy they will be in good shape after the break but I think we may start to see them come down a bit from their recent record until they do.
