Down on the Farm: 6/8/2023

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats topped the Las Vegas Aviators 4-3.

Luis Matos RF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(3), Sac.  BA= .380.

Not much else to say about Matos.  Since being called up to Sacramento on May 17, He's gone 0 for 5 three times.  He's had at least one hit in all of his other games and has 12 multihit games out of 20.  5 of his first 21 hits went for XB's, 6 out of 14 in June so far.  As noted in a comment, FZ said yesterday that the Giants may have to make some moves to make room for Matos if he continues to beat down the door.

Gerelmi has not allowed an ER in his last 12 IP over 3 appearances.  He has 14 K's and just 2 BB's in that stretch.

Complex Performances:

Guillermo Williamson LF(ACL)- 2 for 5, 2 HR(2).  BA= .455.

  1. It was an entertaining game in Visalia last night. Some times you get to the ballpark and see something that you have never seen before. Last night it was seeing two Little Giants runners being thrown out at home on the same play. The Giants had runners on first and second when Ramos hit a line drive to right center. The runner at second held up, thinking the ball might be caught while the runner at first advanced almost to second. The ball got past the outfielders. I was watching the flight of the ball and when I looked up, both runners were running full speed toward third with the second runner about five feet behind the first runner. They both scampered toward home and the ball arrived in time and the catcher tagged them both out at the plate. It was poor base running by the Little Giants and a good defensive play by the catcher. It was entertaining for the home town crowd and something I will probably never see in person again.
Gerelmi Maldonado was in total command for his 4 innings of work. The MPH were being shown on the scoreboard and he hit 96 MPH and sat between 94 - 96 with his fastball. He also had some effective off-speed pitches. APGiantsfan

    1. Thank you for the report. I sounds like Gerelmi has a lot more going for him than an 70 grade name. And yeah, you see some amazing and fun things at minor league games.
