Victor Bericoto may be the best pure hitter in the organization. The crazy part is while he is still relatively young for the level, he will be rule 5 draft eligible after this season.

Velasquez and Maldonado are two more very promising young international prospects who weren't on many prospect watching radar screens at the beginning of this season, or even now.
Complex Performances:
Elian Rayo 3B(ACL)- 2 for 3, HR(1). BA= .273. 20 yo B-R, T-R, 6'0", 202 lbs. Third pro season.
Interesting to hear that Bericoto will be rule 5 eligible after this year. I guess that is one unfortunate side effect of signing these international players so young. I wonder if he would be a potential trade candidate this year. He kind of reminds me of Canario (who was part of the Bryant trade), they're both young, emerging prospects tearing up the lower minor league levels.
ReplyDeletePart of the problem is the loss of a year of development for players drafted or signed before 2020 without the loss of a year counting toward Rule 5 Draft eligibility but it's still a problem even without that.
DeleteHe'll be 22 in December. If he's plucked, he has to play in the Majors out of A+ ball.
DeleteHow does he fit in the minor draft?
