The O's were a run better than the Giants in a crisp game kicking off a 3-game weekend series in Oracle Park. Key Lines:
Lamonte Wade Jr 1B- 1 for 4, HR(8). BA= .271. LMWJ gets the 100'th Splash Hit since Pac Bell Park opened next to McCovey Cove. Just to show what an accomplishment a Splash Hit is, it's taken 23 years to get to 100. Barry Bonds has 35. #2 is Brandon Belt at 10. Opposing team players have reached the water just 55 times(just to be clear, opposing team HR's that reach McCovey Cove are not counted as Splash Hits). What made this one unique is LMWJ got it while leading off the Giants half of the first inning.
Logan Webb RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 9/3. ERA= 2.85. 9'th consecutive QS for Webb. His ERA is lower than his season ERA for 2021 or 2022 yet it seems like he has not pitched as well due to Cainesque run support. I guess when you are the ace, you tend to go H2H with the opposing team's ace.
The Loss was the Giants third in a row and drops them back below .500 and 1.5 games off the Wild Card pace.
Alex Cobb RHP tries to stop the losing streak tonight facing Kyle Bradish RHP.
Orioles with 4 hits including a 1-run HR and 1 walk managed 3 runs.
ReplyDeleteGiants with 6 hits including a 1-run HR and 3 walks managed 2 runs.
All of the O's runners played into their scoring, the Giants separated theirs.
It's not how many, it's when you get them.
Former Oriole manager Earl Weaver said among many wise things, paraphrasing extensively, just give me a three-run homer. Although that's not how Baltimore won, it was close: they got the HR (a solo) and they bunched all their hits and the walk in one inning while the Giants matched the solo but couldn't put the hits together plus made a base running mistake that cost a run.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda but it didn't happen so forget it and play the next day.
Some how they gotta bunch their hits!
