Complex Developments:

Will Bednar RHP(ACL)- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.50.  Bednar finally made his first appearance since getting shut down in the middle of last season.  He worked his way through trouble in the first inning then struck out the side in the second inning.  He walked the first and only batter he faced in the third inning who later came around to score.  No word on velocities or how he looked.  Gotta think if he is fully healthy he could also be a fast mover in the system although I am sure the Giants will be very conservative with innings and promotions this season as he is coming off an extended stay on the IL spanning parts of two seasons.  Great to see him back and pitching.

Are you considering a mid year prospects review?

  2. Whisenhunt hasn’t pitched a lot of minor league innings but I’m wondering if he will get some top 100 prospect buzz. Feels like we may have found a gem

    1. Whisenhunt is doing what I hoped Bednar would do last season.

  3. Additional Comment re. AAA: I read a comment on Twitter that Luis Matos is the youngest player in all of AAA and he's killing it. That has to put him into elite prospect territory.

  4. Report from Visalia - 22 year-old Jack Choate is a prospect to watch. The 9th round pick from last year. He is a 6'6" left-hander with an easy 3/4 delivery. In 39 innings this season he has 56 strikeouts against 17 walks and batters are hitting .164 against him. Choate made some athletic fielding moves, getting to ground balls on either side of the mound and throwing out the batters at first. Sean Newcomb, another tall (6'5") left-hander, on a rehab assignment, followed Choate with 2 innings. Newcomb is the former 1st round pick by the Angels in 2014. Did not realize it was Newcomb, as he was not listed on the program. I was more impressed with Choate's performance. APGiantsfan

    1. Thank you for the report. Jack Choate has indeed put up some very interesting pitching lines. With the reminder that low A ball is a very conservative placement for college draftees, he is a significant sleeper in the system and someone to watch. I expect him to do well at higher levels.

Giants have used 12 rookies thus far.
