High A  San Jose Giants outscored the Stockton Ports 12-5:

Steven Duggar RF- 4 for 6, HR(4).  BA= .278.
Ryan Howard SS- 3 for 5, 2B, Sac.  BA= .326.

-12 scoreless IP for Williams since his promo with 18 K's.  That has to give his stock some serious helium!
-Looks like the Giants are going to let Howard and Reynolds finish out the season in SJ and graduate to Richmond together next year.
-Steven Duggar would seem like a great candidate to get extra AB's in the Arizona Fall League.

  1. Would be nice if they let some of the sj kids get a taste of the barren prospect wasteland in AA.

Would free up some of the backlog of guys repeating in Augusta too.

  2. Caleb Gindl is demonstrative of the Giants' failed reclamation effort this past off season. Except he is probably worse -- a never was, never will be through three other organizations. Who in the Giants' FO finds these guys and wastes money and minor league playing time?
OTOH: Sandoval may be a find. Yesterday, for the 2nd time, K&K reveal that the Sandoval Saga has a twist: Hensley Meulens studied Sandoval's 2014 post season and found ahitch or a loop or something that slowed going at the ball. His swing has been "leveled" and we are seeing the results. Perhaps. But he put a clinic on at 3rd yesterday. The play from his knees on Zobrist wasn't the only takeaway. Makes you wonder.

    1. Gindl isn't taking time away from anyone. He's no kind of prospect, true. But no one in San Jose is exactly setting the world on fire.

The system is what it is. And right now the system has room for someone like Gindl.

    2. You're right, Richmond is a wasteland so perhaps it's a good place for an organizational guy like Grindl. Only Davis might improve with ABs, not so much Cole & Carbonell. Grindl isn't taking ABs from Davis.
At SJ are legitimates Duggar and Reynolds plus Jebavy, Brusa, and Quinn (who isn't doing so well at A+).
At Augusta is Garcia who started out at Richmond, but probably should stay in Augusta.
Giants would rather see Grindl at Richmond, than Duggar and Reynolds? Maybe, don't rush them, and Duggar seems to have his plate full right now.
I see Grindl like so many guys the Giants brought in -- at least they haven't tried him in SF, but a lot of time was wasted watching Morrero, Stubbs, Calixte, Ruggiano, Morse, and even Hill with OF time who were retread signings. Grindl is doing as well as Heathcott who got a promotion.
So, you're right, he isn't hurting anything, like Lollis isn't hurting anything, but he's just another wannabee.

    3. Most organizations consider AA to be their prospect level and AAA to be their depth level. The Giants have tended to utilize them in that way too.

To me, Gindl's presence on the AA roster and in the daily lineup says something about the state of the farm system that is not flattering. Yes there are explanations. Yes there are other reasons to be optimistic about the Giants future, but right now there just is not much to get excited about at the level that should be producing the next wave of top prospects. Fair or not, Gindl is my lightning rod for that frustration.

  3. Here's my deep thought for the day: interesting to note that there are more multiple players with names such as Caleb and Garrett and Dylan/Dillon. Guess these were popular names 18-23 years ago. Thanks, as always for reporting on the minor leagues. Hope springs eternal when reading about all these players. Which one will develop into a bonafide major league player? It's almost impossible to know. That's what makes it such an amazing game.
