For those of you scratching your heads about why the Giants might have drafted so many HS kids late in the draft...could be wrong about this, but each team is credited with $125 K toward their bonus pool for each pick 11-40 which they do not forfeit if the draftee fails to sign. If 10 picks fail to sign, that give the team $1.25 M to go overslot for other picks made after round 10(not sure if that money can be spent in the first 10 picks, but I don't think so), which may be where the money to sign Trevor McDonald(Round 11) is coming from?
Round 21 Pick #626: Bryce Fehmel RHP, College(Oregon St). 6'2", 205 lbs. 7-2, 3.58, 88 IP, 17 BB, 65 K. College senior who makes it work on pitchability. FB is just high 80's with a slider and changeup to back it up. Gets a lot of GB outs. Long blond hair is a trademark. Longshot as a pro but someone to root for.
Round 22 Pick #656: Javeyan Williams OF, College(Southern). B-L, T-L. 5'9", 160 lbs. .404/.478/.612, 13 2B, 7 3B, 4 HR, 26 SB. Another college senior. Breakout season for the small but speedy and wiry strong CF. For some reason the comp that jumps into my head is Kenny Lofton.
Round 23 Pick #686. Taylor Rashi RHP, College(UC Irvine). 6'4", 220 lbs. 5-1, 2.36, 45.2 IP, 7 BB, 56 K, 12 Saves. Another college senior. College closer with strong K/BB. I was not able to find a scouting report or video but the size and K/BB are enough to make me give him a thumbs up right there.
Round 24 Pick #716. Evan Lumbert RHP, College(Florida Gulf Coast). 6'0", 175 lbs. 6-3, 3.95, 73 IP, 39 BB, 64 K. College Senior. The size and walk rate are not confidence building. Reputation for knocking off more highly rated opponents.
Round 25 Pick #746. Richard Rodriguez 2B, HS(Puerto Rico). B-R, T-R. 6'0", 165 lbs. Medium build with room to fill out. Fast(6.57 60) and has an arm(92 IF). Some bat wrapping and pull-happy on video. Long term project but a fairly high ceiling.
Round 26 Pick #776. Nick Avila RHP, College(Long Beach St). 6'4', 195 lbs. 0-5, 3.99, 56 IP, 19 BB, 38 K's. No scouting report. Maybe some projectablity in the frame.
Round 27 Pick #806. Connor Beichler SS, HS. B-S, T-R. 5'10", 165 lbs. Best tool is speed(6.42 60) which would play in CF. Projectable frame. Good student, committed to Oklahoma. HS picks this low tend to not sign. I could see this kid being a top 3 round pick in 3 years.
Round 28 Pick #836. Reese Sharp RHP, HS. 6'3", 225 lbs. Big kid. 2-way player in HS. 90 MPH FB velocity. Committed to Indiana. Longshot to sign.
Round 29 Pick #866. Brooks Crawford RHP, College(Clemson). 6'4", 215 lbs. 1-4, 6.28, 38.2 IP, 12 BB, 29 K, 1 Save. Started 17 games his junior season but split time between the bullpen and rotation as a senior with mixed results. One scouting report liked his size and athleticism and reported FB peak at 94 with 2 quality offspeed pitches. Sleeper who could wake up with a tweak or two.
Round 30 Pick #896. Justin Crump RHP, College(UNC Wilmington). 6'3", 215 lbs. 3-0, 3.48, 20.2 IP, 18 BB, 34 K. Older college pitcher who missed the 2017 and 2018 seasons with arm injuries. No scouting report.
