Game Wrap 6/24/2019: Rockies 2 Giants 0

A flyball by David Dahl that barely cleared the LF wall at Oracle Park ruined an otherwise sparkling pitching performance by Drew Pomeranz and 2 relievers as the Giants offense laid down and died for Jon Gray.  Key Lines:

Drew Pomeranz LHP- 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 11 K's.  ERA= 6.79.  Pomeranz had an electric fastball and a sharp curve you could see with the first batter of the first inning.  He made the one mistake pitch to Dahl and all the K's ran his pitch count up to 93 after 5 innings.  Otherwise, a splendid performance which hopefully bodes well for the future.  A couple more in a row like this and he might generate some trade interest by July 31.

Derek Holland LHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 6.28.  I have to confess to checking out early and going to bed but the line looks encouraging.

Madison Bumgarner tries to put his last awful start behind him tonight facing Chi Chi Gonzalez who last pitched in the major leagues in 2016.

  1. Buster reminds me a lot of how Pence looked last year.... done. Crawford and Belt are looking the same and what I’m wondering is if they just need a change of scenery. It worked for Hunter and it would actually at this point be the humane thing to do. Let these guys rediscover themselves somewhere else so the Giants can move on to the new core and so they can find themselves again.

Atlanta has to be at least a little interested in Buster being from there and he would be a perfect compliment to Mccann for the Left/Right platoon. Pay half his salary and throw in Dyson or even Crawford and see what you can get. Anything in return has to be a win at this point.

This next month has the chance to be incredibly influential over the future of this team. Pieces like Buster or Belt or Pillar or ANYONE that another team has ANY interest in need to be moved. Stock pile lottery tickets and pay most of their salary if needed but lets move on already and start the next chapter.

    1. I agree with this completely - it's not tanking if they are moving these .200-.225 hitters that can play above-average defense at their positions - it's upgrading the major league club right now in 2019 plus getting some lottery ticket prospects. Glad to see Pillar get hot - someone will want him and Duggar can plug back in.
