AAA Sacramento River Cats pounded the New Orleans Baby Cakes 7-2:
Mike Gerber CF- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .330.
Henry Ramos RF- 2 for 4, HR(9), BB. BA= .267.
Chris Shaw 1B/LF- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(2), BB. BA= .310.

Andrew Suarez LHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 7/2. ERA= 6.07.
Chris Shaw has a 5 game hit streak with 2 hits in 4 of those games, 9 for 21 with 3 doubles and 2 HR's. Andrew Suarez allowed 1 ER in 5 IP his last start so maybe he can find some traction and turn his season around?

Bryce Johnson has 4 multihit games in a row, 6 out of 10 and is batting .372 over his last 10. Heliot Ramos' slash line at age 19 is .318/.427/.598, 125 PA. Fun comp: In 2010, Mike Trout was promoted to Rancho Cucamonga on July 7 one month shy of his 19'th birthday. His slash line for the rest of the season was .306/.388/.434, 223 PA. He made his MLB debut in 2011 and won AL ROY in 2012.

A Augusta Greenjackets outscored the Lexington Legends 8-5:
Diego Rincones RF- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .285.
Frankie Tostado 1B- 3 for 5. BA= .278.

DSL Giants pounded the Mariners 10-6:
Adolfo Valdez LF(19 yo)- 2 for 5, 3B, SB(3). BA= .308.
Luis Matos CF(17 yo)- 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .269.
Diego Verbel 2B(16 yo)- 3 for 4, SB(1). BA= .300.
Marvin Brown RHP(18 yo)- 3.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 0.00.
It's still early to get much of a read on the DSL players but exciting to see a 16 yo performing well. Adolfo Valdez who was signed out of Mexico seems like a dynamic player although 19 yo is old for the league.

The Giants made a trade today acquiring yet another left-handed hitting OF who had been DFA'd. This time it was Alex Dickerson from the Padres in exchange for RHP Franklin Van Gurp. Dickerson is a very good hitter but is defensively challenged in the OF. He also has missed the last two seasons with injuries. Dickerson hit just .158 in 19 PA's for the Padres this season but was slashing .372/.469/.606 for the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas. He has a MLB career slash line of .250/.321/.429. Probably worth a flyer. He came with an option and the Giants sent him to Sacramento. Gotta say, although I love Franklin Van Gurp's name, he seems quite low risk to come back and haunt the Giants.

Maybe art and Ramos can come up in consecutive years and win/win ROY!
ReplyDeleteHaha, plan ahead, my ma used to say.
Shaw is now hitting over 300 at AAA. He's been crushing two levels on minor league ball this season. A pitcher's league and a hitter's league. I say give him 3-5 more days. If he keeps this up, bring him up and stick him in left field for the rest of the season. Might be for us what Mac teased and failed at being.
ReplyDeleteTime to bring up Shaw, Slater and show the same patience with them we are showing with Duggar, playing both LF and 1B
DeleteDickerson is likely to platoon with Austin in LF unless Yastrzemski's .231/.293/.346 is good enough for this year's Giants.
ReplyDeleteThink Shaw's move to 1st base indicates the Giants may try to move Belt before the trade deadline? If SF picks up some of BB's $17.2 MM for this and the next 2 years AND the NT is waived, he could return a reasonable prospect or 2 that would be around for the resurgence in the 2020's. It would be "buying" the return for Belt but it could make sense. The Rangers are unlikely to catch Houston but the WC is within reach.
Sandoval is a "free" chip that could score a 40-45 prospect for someone who wants a cheerful multi-position guy who's been there.
