The Giants played with enthusiasm and determination in a game that saw several momentum swings to salvage to avoid a sweep of the 3-game series. Key Lines:
Austin Slater CF/RF- 2 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .255. Slater was literally 0 for the month of August until two games ago. over his last 3 games he's gone 4 for 7 with 3 walks.
Patrick Bailey C- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .256. Bailey came through with a bases-loaded double to drive in 3 runs to cap a 4-run 5'th inning. Also appeared to get some strike calls out of the home plate ump with some nifty framing, at least according to the ESPN announcing crew.
Casey Schmitt 3B- 1 for 3, HR(3), Sac. BA= .199. The HR was smoked and was his Schmitt's first HR in over 200 AB's.
Tristan Beck RHP- 4.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.52. This line is a lot better than it looks on paper. Beck was perfect through 4 IP and appeared to be having to give more effort to make his pitches in the 5'th. He's built like a hoss though, so should be able to get deeper into games with some stretching out. Ha! I have him penciled into the rotation for at least the next 5 years! And how about this for a 2024 starting rotation: Webb, Cobb, Beck, Harrison, Winn with Mason Black and Carson Whisenhunt starting the year in AAA? That doesn't count Stripling or Manaea who may or may not opt out of the final years of 2-year contracts. If they don't opt out are either of them tradable?
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R,0 BB, 2 K's, Save(34). ERA= 3.04. Doval needed an easy Save. Not that there is anything easy against the Braves but hopefully this gets his feet back on the ground after a series of reeling Blown Saves.
The Win leaves the Giants 1.5 games behind the D'Backs in the race for the final Wild Card playoff spot.
The Giants open a critical series against the Reds tomorrow evening with Kyle Harrison LHP facing Andrew Abbott LHP.
I was at the game and it was a wild one. Hope they can continue to hit like this. Ceremony for Milke Murphy was done well and lots of ex-Giants at the park. I got to talk to Will Clark who was very cordial. I like the rotation you have penciled in for next year. I wonder if Keaton Winn will be durable with his "elbow soreness" issue. I like what I saw of him though. Crucial series against the Reds to stay in the hunt coming up. Go get em Giants!
ReplyDeleteReds lost 3 of 4 in AZ, they need to do that again, starting today, rookie Abbott against Giants rookies.
ReplyDeleteStripling & Manea player options are for $15MM next year (above their $10MM this year) -- they'll opt in surely, unless Giants win '23WS and either of them has a post-season ERA under 2.00; and Disco under contract next year too.
