AAA: El Paso Chihuahuas outscored the Sacramento River Cats 8-7.
Bryce Johnson CF- 1 for 2, 3 BB, SB(14). BA= .284.
David Villar 1B- 1 for 1, HR(13). BA= .283.
Trenton Brooks 1B/RF- 1 for 4, 2B, SF. BA= .296.
Johan Camargo SS- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .308.
Tyler Fitzgerald 2B- 2 for 3, HR(17). BA= .279.
Is Paul DeJong an upgrade over Johan Camargo?
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Portland Sea Dogs 10-8(Game 1 of DH, 7 innings).
Shane Matheny CF- 2 for 4, HR(10). BA= .260.
Brady Whalen 3B- 3 for 4, HR(3). BA= .229.
Victor Bericoto RF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(6). BA= .228.
Logan Wyatt PH/1B- 1 for 1, HR(7). BA= .238.
Victor Bericoto's slash line for the month of August is .288/.326/.538. Giants have a Rule 5 Draft roster decision to make on him this offseason.
A+: Hillsboro Hops crushed the Eugene Emeralds 7-1.
Nothing to see here.
A: Modesto Nuts outlasted the San Jose Giants 12-11.
Turner Hill CF- 3 for 5, SB(25). BA= .295.
Quinn McDaniel 2B- 2 for 4, HR(1), BB. BA= .364.
Cole Foster SS- 1 for 4, HR(3), BB. BA= .200.
Charlie Szykowny 3B- 3 for 5, 2B, BB. BA= .250.
Javier Francisco 1B- 3 for 6, 2 2B. BA= .300.
Joe Whitman LHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.50.
Esmerlin Vinicio LHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 5.19.
Javier Francisco has had something of a breakout season at age 20. It looks like he signed before the 2020 season so he has one more season before he has to be added to the 40-man roster or exposed to the Rule 5 Draft.
Is DeJong .176/.176/.353/.529 an upgrade over
ReplyDeleteFitzerald .279/.343/.496/.839, (who was "free")?
Sure, it's comparing AAA apples to MLB oranges, but who's to say that Fitzgerald can't hit .176 and maybe get a couple walks?
He's also has 24 SB's in 27 attempts this year.
BTW, after going 3 for 5 in his first game with the Giants, DeJong is 0 for 12 over his next 3. Small sample in a Giants uniform but pretty much what he's done for the last 3 years with other teams.
DeleteGiants gonna keep DeJong, because they wanted him at one time.
DeleteDeJong should have a 1.0 WAR with the Giants for winning his first game and then retired!
DeleteCamargo ~0 WAR might have been better.
With 19 HRs this year, Tyler Fitzgerald has 17 HRs in AAA and 2 in AA, 21 last year in AA, and 17 in A+ the year before that.
Zaidi is running out of time for someone - anyone - from his first draft (with the Giants) to do something! Anything.
Free Fitzgerald!
Your comment about Zaidi's first draft (2019) provoked me to look back at the listings for the first round. Of the first 21 picks, 18 have made it to the majors. Of the other 3, one looks like a HS bust -- Keoni Cavaco (Twins @ 13.) The other two are Hunter Bishop (Giants) and Will Wilson (whom the G's would have taken had they not taken Bishop, and later effectively purchased from the Halos for an 8-figure sum). So Giants' top two preferences were 2/3 of the busts in the top 21. Pretty unimpressive.
DeleteTo be honest, at the time I was torn between Bishop and Corbin Carroll, who seemed like a potential Brett Butler, one of my favorite old timey players. I was fine with Bishop because I have a strong local bias and he was from San Mateo. But I'm a dilettante, not a pro scout.
I doubt Bericoto eill be protected because he is not a plus defender at C/Ss/CF. Adequate at 1B and learning RF.
ReplyDeletewith as rough of a season hjelle has had, he may need to take a step down and get right in AA.
