Game Wrap 8/13/2023: Giants 3 Rangers 2(10 innings)

Patrick Bailey's walkoff 2-run HR in the 10'th inning turned a bitterly disappointing loss into a glorious win.  Key Lines:

Thairo Estrada 2B/SS- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .271.  Estrada doing his job out of the 2-hole in the lineup.  Didn't figure into the scoring due to Giants frustrating inability to drive in runners on base even with no outs.

Patrick Bailey C- 2 for 5, HR(6).  BA= .267. Bailey shows he still has something in the tank, hitting .429 over his last 7 games.

Michael Conforto RF- 2 for 3, HR(15), BB.  BA= .242.  Disappointing season so far for Conforto but he still has time to put together a hot streak to help carry this team.  Identical lines 2 games in a row is a good place to start.

Logan Webb RHP- 8.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 14/3.  ERA= 3.26.  What a gem by Webb!  Came up 1 out short of a shutout.  Some discussion re. Kap pulling him one out shy of a shutout and a runner on 2B.  Eh!  Same thing could have happened if he'd stayed in and Kap would be criticized for leaving him in too long.  He was up to 107 pitches.  The tying run scored on on a weird play.  Runner on 2B came all the way home on groundball to the hole.  Fluke play could have happened to any pitcher or any decision.

The Win leaves the Giants trailing the Phillies for the top Wild Card playoff spot by 1.5 games and leading the Marlins for the 2'nd spot by 1.5 games.

The Giants a 3-game series against the mighty Rays with Ryan Walker RHP opening against Tyler Glasnow RHP.

  1. I really appreciate what Logan Webb has brought to the Giants. Too bad he did not get the win. He has the most quality starts in mlb right now.
I was wondering who Camilo Doval was barking at as he left the mound after his balk brought in the go ahead run in the tenth. Couldn't tell if it was one of the Texas players or a fan that he was. mad at. Anybody else catch that?

    1. Yes, I noticed. I thought it was directed at the ump but then I thought if it was he probably would have gotten tossed.

    2. Yesterday was one of those games where I wish Kapler would have taken an ejection for the bad umpiring of Eddings

  2. Exciting game! Bailey is proving himself to be a stud player. Still disappointed that Webb didn't get the win, due to the offense leaving no room for error, but that's baseball

  3. Lost in all the excitement was the performance of Heliot Ramos in the 9th inning. Facing the still-excellent Aroldis Chapman (who struck out the 3 other batters he faced that inning - Matos, looking, Slater, looking, and Flores (102mph in the upper right corner of the strike zone), Ramos drilled a 98mph FB the other way and missed ending the game right there by about 10 feet (a 2B off the brick wall in RF). Considering that Ramos struck out 3 times earlier in the game, I would say that perhaps he is learning, and he might benefit from more AB. Not sure if Kapler agrees.

    1. I agree. Ramos put together an impressive AB against Chapman. Went right after him and swung hard and confidently even with 2 strikes.

  4. Mike Krukow said on the KNBR morning show that Heliot Ramos has a hole in his swing for high fastballs. The one he hit was down enough for him to rake it.
