Logan Webb got knocked around for 2 runs in the first inning then settled down to allow just one more hit through the 7'th inning and the Giants scored 4 runs in the middle innings for the runaway win(by their recent standards). Key Lines:
Wilmer Flores DH 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .305. Wilmer stays hot and pushes his season OPS above .900. He's been one of the hottest hitters in MLB for over 2 months with OPS's above 1.000 in both June and July.
J. D. Davis 3B- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .260. Davis singled and scored ahead of Brandon Crawford's triple in the 5'th inning for the Giants first run. He then doubled with the bases loaded in the 6'th to drive in the go ahead and insurance runs. Giants need him to get his bat going again.
Logan Webb RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 12/1. ERA= 3.45. Maybe Webby needs an Opener? Once he got that first inning out of the way he was unhittable for the next 6 innings. 17'th QS of the season.
Camilo Doval RHP recorded his 32'nd Save of the season and Tyler Rogers RHP recorded his 24'th Hold with 3 GB outs in the 8'th.
Giants remain 2.5 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers but gain a game on the Wild Card competition. They are currently in the first Wild Card playoff spot 1.5 games ahead of the Phillies and 2 games ahead of the Marlins and Brewers.
The Giants go for a 3-1 series win tomorrow afternoon with TBD facing Brandon Pfaadt RHP.
Realized today the Giants are 1 back in the Win column and 4 back in the loss column from the Dodgers. Going to mighty hard to catch up from that deficit.

I am happy to take it one game at a time and enjoy the ride. lt's already been a fun, interesting season, especially seeing the emergence of several young players. If they end up in the top Wild Card position that is a great season for me.

I think they have a shot to pick up 1 game every 2 weeks.
ReplyDeleteOff topic - The way the opener is being effectively used (3 x thru the rotation!) seems like Moneyball for an entire staff.
Giants are 51-13 when they score 4 runs or more.
ReplyDeleteThey are 9-36 when they don't score at least 4 runs.
16-4 @ 4 runs.
Is it time to quit 2nd guessing Kapler? :(
ReplyDeleteIt's beginning to look like 2021 when the players validated his every decision.
Pollock might deserve a Save when Walker d̶o̶u̶b̶l̶e̶d̶ was held to a single in the 9th...
BTW, today, on Thursday, on Friday morning, the Giants have the 3rd best record in the National League. They are the #1 WC in the NL, which would give them a home game.
ReplyDeleteThey are a good team, with very good pitching, and they have good players coming off the IL.
Don't despair, and don't underestimate, they might not be able to catch LA, but they can make the WC.
Should they have gotten an ACE pitcher? For the cost of 2024, 2025 & beyond? NO!
Have faith, it's in the Hands of the Baseball Gods and nothing they could have traded (the Future) for would have guaranteed the Playoffs.
They will or they won't, but the Future is Secure -- have Faith!
